Near the bottom of the Flight Ops Update..Crew Resources says the next AE will be April 16..will have M88A displacements and open a virtual base in MCO for the 7ER..could be a nice summer for MCO ER commuters?!

It will reduce deadheads on each end of previous 8 days trips making them now 6 days or two 3 day trips. Or in the case of GRU, instead of a 10 day trip with two DH’s where the FO deviated and was home two extra days anyway, it will be two 4 day trips. So an ER FO living in or near MCO can make much less money flying the same thing.
We need to get rid of virtual bases.

I was under the impression the VB rotations can’t begin or end with an ocean crossing.

These trips would previously go senior for pilots living in MCO. Guess they will now too - for less pay.

Know your contract:
“Ocean crossing” means a flight segment: a. across the Atlantic Ocean, or b. across the Pacific Ocean, as follows: 1) between the North American continent and the Hawaiian Islands, 2) between the Hawaiian Islands and any point west of the 160 degree meridian, 3) between the North American continent and a point west of the 160 degree meridian, 4) between a Pacific Rim airport and Australia and/or New Zealand, or, c. to or from an airport in South America, as follows: 1) between the United States and any point further south of the equator than 3 degrees, 30 minutes south latitude on the South American continent, and 2) any flight segment scheduled for greater than eight hours to, within or from the South American continent,

True. However, when has the facts ever meant anything to the sky is falling crowd?
Cueing "the company is planning for the long term, wait for their openers in the next contract, chess not checkers" in 3,2,1...

On ocean crossings I stand corrected. Virtual bases will decrease manning however as stated by the last negotiating committee and should be eliminated.

Maybe you're right..but when I commuted for 5 yrs to the bottom 10 on reserve in DFW, CVG, ATL..positive space and a company paid hotel room would have been a huge QOL improvement.

Everyone should do what is right for them. If you want to bid the VB in MCO you should while it still exists. Could be a good deal. But it is a giveaway to company. We can revoke it and should. It doesn’t affect me personally either way but it does not make sense to decrease manning voluntarily.

What’s stopping DL from making MCO a regular base? Last I checked MCO has more departures than CVG (which is a pilot base). MCO could easily be a 757/767, 737, A319/20/21 base.
