Dude, that’s over the top bull**** right there. Why the personal attack? I prepare my sleep and rest schedule for an early or late sign in, and I believe most pilots do as well.

You guys are making this waaaaay to complicated. If you are fatigued or unfit for whatever reason call in fatigued or unfit. If you get paid great - and if you don't total bummer, but still far better than flying a flight if you are not up to it and all the bad outcomes that can possibly result from such action.
From the percentage of guys getting paid for fatigued calls I say we are in search of a problem here. Is this optimal - no but in my opinion being blown out of proportion. Don't fly sick, don't fly fatigued, don't fly when unfit.

That said for the people who are worried about foregoing pay with a fatigue call, don’t worry about it. The company is driving staffing so low there will always be white slipes, maybe even green slips available.
So don’t pay me for a fatigue call. I will pick up something else and be just fine. Meantime I’m staying legal.

While not fatigued, I did have to call in sick in a situation that royally screwed the operation. It was so bad that even when I called Crew Accommodations regarding transportation to the airport 30 hours later, the woman on the other end said, "Oh! Your THAT person!"
However, I never received an push back or retaliation from anyone. My initial call was forwarded to the Duty Pilot (an action that may irritate some), but the only thing the Duty Pilot wanted to know was if I needed a doctor sent to the hotel room. I didn't get defensive and treated everyone with respect. If you do get someone who you feel is pressuring you, the worst thing you can do is be a d!ck back. As long as you abide by the FARs and aren't rude, there is nothing they can do.

Under the current MOU regarding fatigue, you are pay protected (or are supposed to be) until you aren't which means you can't pick up something to cover a potential loss. Not the best of negotiated terms but hopefully the current negotiators can rectify that.

Hmmm....Bronco said his sleep prep was the "responsible" thing to do. Therefore, to not do sleep prep for international like he does would be what ??????......I think the word irresponsible comes to mind. Ergo, since I don't do that, I am ?????? I told him, he was truly a professional.
The only diff as far as over the top bull cr** between what he did and what I did is.....he intentionally/unintentionally implied I (and all the others that don't do it his way) are unprofessional....while I told him HE was real professional
In the week or two that I have been flying international, I have NEVER heard of guys staying up till 4 am intentionally prior to the first leg to prep.....I have heard of them waking up at 3 am unintentionally
OBTW....you guys need to lighten up....subtle sarcasm isn't necessarily bull**** nor over the top bull****....in this case it was a means to provide another perspective. I like to think we are all responsible and can manage our own live's accordingly re sleep prep
