When I bring up the FOM policy, he rolls his eyes, puts it away, looks out of the window for about 30 min with his lips moving.
Then the cycle repeats.
Whats up with that?
Cats or retirement app or what? I don’t ask to not escalate and hurt their feelings further.. but I would love to know .. what is so irresistible?

Because, in my opinion, the company has chosen not to play the blame game. DALPA seems more than willing to publicly blame the lack of progress on the company. Noise, no results. In my experience, the kid that cries the most to the parents after a fight with their brother is usually the one with the most to hide.
Speaking of results, the word ‘progress’ was used a few times, not by me, but attributed to me. I like the word ‘results’ more. Results are quantifiable, progress is subjective.
Thanks for the civil debate. Like I said, I respect your opinion.
btw, did you ever live in Moab?

I am NOT excusing the missteps by the company and agree we should be looking at early outs and the other MEC goals, just pointing out from more of a macro view of why the strategy can be problematic when YOU are the one seeking something.

Every FO I fly with seem to be addicted to his cell phone and checks it about every 3.5 minutes.

I’m just a chameleon though. And I’m not gonna call him out unless it’s impinging on safety/operations

amen to the marriage bit. Took me a couple years to figure out being married...but married life is much easier afterwards. Plus now, if I squawk, my wife knows it’s for real/she might have had a mis-step

If there is one thing this should demonstrate, it is who has the upper hand most of the time. All the griping in the world has not yet brought the company to the table in a way we desire. Each time a child throws a tantrum, it has a lesser effect. Each time we put out a negative communication, it has a lesser effect. It is very similar to the perceived gains by the FA’s by the threat of a union. It used to be the threat of firing up the pilots was leverage. Now that card has been played and is gone along with the leverage it held. (Especially with a cut back schedule)

A detailed 'study' from us on costs isnt going to sway the decisions....mgmt has their own calculator. If it tells them a retirement offer is cost effective than it will be in the mix.
Just looking at the numbers this airline is going to significantly downsize pilots over the next 36-42 months by doing nothing.
Depending on traffic return one calculation mgmt may have made is to furlough 2000ish off the bottom of the list. Count on another 500 or so off the top who will simply decide going to school and maybe commuting at age 64 simply isnt worth it.
And let retirement attrition shrink the pilot group to desired level over following 36 months.

There is no need for mgmt to come to the table. They already have the tools needed to negotiate the resizing process.

And that's why the MEC sends out missives(an attempt to rile up your emotions). BobZ talks to reality, and you seem to think emotion sways the day.
No matter where one is on the seniority list....the numbers are gonna be the the numbers. It really isn't hard to understand.
I'll echo his sentiments and will gladly take you up on your bet....what's the wager. My backup job will be making bets I KNOW I will win

BTW the MEC mentions the UAL early out program. How many pilots took that? If you offer something and nobody takes it, is it really an offer? If you obliquely reference it as something good(which the MEC did), are you trying to manipulate the reader?
