This is all great content, but for those of us getting ready to make a decision; how much can a new hire realistically expect to make in the first 12 months? A lot of us are looking at a huge pay cut the first few years. After IOE you are getting a guaranteed $92/hour x's 72, right? What else is there in terms of soft/dirty money?

It all depends on how well you hustle. If you work the big trade shows in Atlantic City or Vegas the sky’s the limit. If you keep tricking on 53rd and 3rd letting Spider take his cut you’ll never make it in the bigs. Eyes on the prize, not on the curb!

At least there will be no more fetching coffee, dumping the lav or cleaning the plane.

It depends how much you play the game and how long it takes you to get out of OE. But a safety bet is around

90-95k 1st
125-135 2nd
140-150 3rd
160-180 4th

It also depends on the plane, base and how relative senior are you. If you stay in Nyc, your relative seniority will skyrocket compared to other places.

Exactly, it can definitely depend on the city you’re working. In New York City, narrow body on a Friday or Saturday night- you’ll be getting a premium. You’ve just gotta be available and ready to answer the phone at a moment’s notice- and be willing to go wherever the customers need you, no questions asked. The wide bodies don’t seem to get as much last minute premium and their hours tend to be more predictable. They’re generally older and have been hustling for a long time, although they do still work some long nights.

Also don’t forget to factor in all the expenses which can quickly eat into your bottom line. Depending on the city you might need a place to rest your head for a few hours in between shifts of servicing customers. Flophouses or crashpads are usually pretty affordable places to stay, but can be busy at all hours of the day and night with the other hourly transient workers coming and going. Clothing- the customers expect you to look a certain way. You’ll be spending some money on your appearance: hair, shoes, jacket, etc. Medical- the boss is gonna want you to get evaluated once or twice a year- just to make sure you’re safe to be around the customers.

With so many "what if's" about overtime, base, plane, per diem, changes in ALV, etc. Just take the hourly rate and times it by 1000, which should give you a pretty good ballpark.

Using the lowest pay plane on property (717) would give you
Year 1: $92K
Year 2: $126

Year 3 could be $150-169K depending on if you changed planes to the 220 or 321/737

Delta Pilot selection number not answering
 

Hey guys,
A buddy of mine that I wrote a rec for is trying to call to get an interview date, and perpetually getting a voicemail saying we'll call you back. They haven't called back after 3-4 days. Anyone else having this problem?

He got the invite, and apparently has 7 days to schedule the interview, but all he is hearing is crickets after leaving a voicemail.

I tried calling the number they gave him, same issue, straight to voicemail.

I've heard of other having to make multiple calls a day before finally getting through.

I would also try emailing as well as sending DM to the Delta Pilot Hiring FB account.
