I'm trying to get to my 100 hours for consolidation as a reserve pilot. I have a YS for all of my on-call days. Is there any benefit to putting in a YS for an X day or am I better off waiting for GS calls? I'm pretty much the most junior in base, so GS have gone ahead of me so far.

If you do happen to actually hit reserve guarantee then at least you'll get paid for whatever you YS above that.

Depending on how much time you have left, and if you have gotten the extension, you might wait for the GS and kill 2 birds with one stone. But buying a trip sux.

YS on X-days is well above GS in the coverage ladder. So if you are close, but GS aren’t near your seniority yet, it’s much better than having to buy a trip.

I was wondering the same thing. Especially when your seniority can only hold Florida turns but you buy a 72 hr Edinburgh layover.
For those that don’t know, the form is called Consolidation Buyback Request or something like that and is available on Deltanet.

A trip buy sucks because you're working for free. If you do it over reserve days, because the trip pays and credits zero and you lose the value of the reserve days too, so it's negative pay. I tell all the new guys to YS as much as they can, but if it comes down to the wire, buy a trip on X days and make sure it's a good one.

You can do a sim or a line check with an LCP to extend your consolidation an additional 30 days, but after that, you dequal, and have to do requal, which is basically training, a 34X, and a 44X.

Which I’ve done and it was a non-event. Sure, might want to study before it, but it was worth it for the nearly three months off.
