As a serial RSV bidder, I see zero advantage to bidding SC periods, and haven't tried. I'm too am curious to hear success stories. Haven't heard any yet.

YS SC on the other hand, can situationally be very useful. But that has been true for awhile.

No it doesn't....I've had scheds drop an early 30hrs of rest after being on call for only two days....they wanted to make sure they could use me over Xmas which is when I was due for 30/168 after having 7 days of on call.....I put in for GS in and OOB, snagged one, and it dropped the rest.

So unless you actually have a 30/168 issue, I don't think the preemptive rest should prevent you from getting that GS over the XX day.

It appears that if the 30-hr rest is on your schedule, you will be ineligible for GS coverage awards during that time, even if the 30-hr rest is added way before necessary. I seem to recall having this problem on more than one occasion.

I’ve gotten paid for skipped GS in this situation, and also used it for schedule management. Search function sucks on the ALPA site, I can’t find where they’ve addressed this in the past. I believe it derives from 23Q6c, but the general gist is that any 117-based required rest will block any assignment of any kind; but any proactive rest (ie, your 30/168 hasn’t run out, they’re just trying to reset it) does not block a GS.

I’m trying to move an x-day or two. The coverage for the days in question look good in the sense that I’m wanting to move my x-days to worse coverage. I’m thinking the move should have gone through but I’m getting the message “capped reserve days”. Is this because I’m trying to move golden x-days? If so, how do I “un-golden” them? I really don’t understand the whole “golden” thing other than they’ll try “extra hard” not to work you into a day off

Golden Days have absolutely nothing to do with your problem, nor can you or would you need to “ungolden” a day. When you swap an X day to become a work day, if it was “Golden” it just goes into the ethos never to be seen again.

Make sure it’s not in the Memorial Day holiday period. Different rules apply.

What do you mean by worse coverage?

I might be misunderstanding you, but you need to move the X days to days with better coverage which would put you on call on the worse days.

I have had two successful X day moves in the last year. Even from days of better to worse coverage. “Capped Reserve Days” every single time. It is complete BS that we’re running 20% low on required reserves every day of the month (at least in my seat). Change the math or hire more people. I don’t mind the 80+ hours of credit every month but they’re not supposed to rely on reserves this much.
