Oh I don’t know about y’all, but I’m DEFINITELY not the audience for ANY of JL’s ramblings. Bless his heart…

I'll tell my elected leaders my priority: I WANT ALL OF IT.

Perhaps you are managements water boy advocating a strategy that plays and played right into managements dream outcome.
Didnt you absolutely assure us that your boys were going to bring us a mind blowing on time contract because they were tough?
Exactly. Doubling down on decades long failed strategy is what airline pilots do. After nearly 3 decades in, I’m convinced.

First have a focused opener not a decision to rewrite the entire contract. Keep the opener within a reasonable zone of expectations. Not ridiculous things like DALPA to control all rotation construction. If I were king which I am not the opener would have looked something like this.
3 year contract
pay 12, 6, 6
vacation to 5:15
Training 5:15
All pilots must have option for 1 week of vacation 07 June to 20 Aug
20% DC
14 hour long call
Open flying greater than 8 hours to report must use coverage ladder.
I year freeze on upgrades. 3 years on lateral or downbid in base, 1 year with base change.
All positions posted on a AE required to be filled
eliminate 1 year AE
profit sharing status quo
LCA override 50%
270 hours top sick leave, 150 before verification. Increase sick leave first year to 100 and adjust scale throughout accordingly.
Updated manning formula that adjusts on a category basis when GS’s exceed 4% of total block. Can adjust down when GS’s under 1% of block.
Class 1 rest facility for all flying over 12 hours block. Class 2 over 8 hours.
4 monthly PS spaces from home of record to domicile to be used at pilot option.
Commuting policy 1 flight arriving 60 minutes prior to report. Pilots expected to use good judgement on weather issues.

So lower the ask and hope they agree in a timely manner. But it's still a negotiation so you have to give what? And openers are never AIPs so how much do you whittle it down?

DALPA polled the masses and the majority wanted a deep dive negotiation into nearly all aspects of the contract. That’s not a rewrite, that’s cleaning out clutter that has eroded qol little by little. A better informed and knowledgeable company negotiating team wouldn’t have been so overwhelmed and ill-prepared to discuss mutually beneficial improvements.

To my knowledge DALPA never advocated for full control of rotation construction - where did you hear this, or why are you exaggerating?

This would have been my opener in 2019. Yes, you would not get everything. Pay might have ended up 8,4,4 and 18% DC. Company might have wanted a give somewhere for a 14 hour long call. Vacation might have been 4:30 a day. It’s all a negotiation! In the end my expectation would have been a net of about 1 billion in improvements.
