MEC chairman election

Look, I like that you try to remain in the real world and not get caught up in the hyperbole that lives on the forum, but I hope you’re not basing too much of your contract cost talk off of this math.

It’s funny how people say they want a bottom-up organization but apparently don’t know what bottom-up means.

Possibly Gspeed. I would love to see how many people asked my 44 reps to vote for RA? We will never know, same as survey results. If the constituency asked their reps to vote for him, and they didn’t, that’s hardly bottom up.

The MEC officers work for the LEC reps and therefore are elected by them.

What about the domicile pilots who know that their vote in an LEC election will also impact any number of future MEC officer elections? I make my decision in LEC elections with these matters in mind. Maybe you don’t?
If you want to have a direct vote for the MEC officers, then go have fun with the APA’s train wreck of a system.

Indeed.
Everyone should bid reserve, no matter seniority, base, equipment type, staffing, or position, and they too may have this amazing GS/bank days lifestyle.
All 15,000 of us.
I’ve no prob with anyone who exercised a negotiated contractual benefit. Since at least half (probably much more) of the group will never be able to “roll thunder” though, I don’t care very much if it gets tweaked.
In normal times, this wasn’t an issue. In 2022, it’s pretty clear luck of the draw provided unanticipated windfalls for some.
Especially if the tweaking provides overall benefits for the many, not the few. With biases for the senior, not the junior (union shop, seniority has preference. I don’t write the rules, but union shop seniority rules are well understood to be biased towards hire date)

Maybe. Are you saying that the 50-100 pilots who voiced an opinion should have more sway than each LEC rep’s personal knowledge of a candidate’s position, attitude, behavior, work ethic, etc.? The officer is, after all, going to be directly working for and representing said LEC rep.

Is the same not true of the LEC reps and it’s membership? Of course it is.
They aren’t elected to be king. A representative is, at his/her core, there to represent me and my fellow pilots. There are exceptions, but I generally expect them to follow the will of their constituencies.
