The Gumm Strikes Back

He’s not, at least not as of about 6 months ago. NYC 73A that drops as much as he can and picks up ATL open time (also about 6 month old info). He’s used same language on here as the Widget FB page so it’s not hard to figure out who he was. I don’t follow who’s sucking up to who on the 4th floor or CPOs so I’m not sure what his ties are there if any.
And one more time just to clarify, anyone who works in management would not be on here actively posting. Primarily, any management job demands significant amount of time. 2ndly, posting on social media, where every letter of your words can be scrutized, is not good for corporate career progression where there is no Union protection and one can get sent back to the line in a New York minute.

I know "It's in the contract", but I really dislike O when looking at daily trip coverage. Losing a GS, especially to a junior OOBWS is frustrating. I flew a trip where the other FO was OOBWS. The Captain mentioned there was an FO senior to him sitting at home instead of getting a GS. He suggested OOBGS may be more socially acceptable if he wanted to try new destinations. It went right over his head. A few minutes later he was commenting on his plan to OOBWS a different trip next month because he likes the OOB layovers better. I later explained the Captain's comment and the light bulb went on.

Month after month I see the same senior guys sucking up primo GS’s then white slipping to the limit. Do you think any of those senior guys would hold off on picking up to the WS limit so more junior guys could get their first green?? It’s not going to happen. Seniority and the coverage ladder cuts both ways.

He was referred to here as “Captain Gumm” and apparently is an active 757/767 pilot. Was he hired in the traditional manner at Delta (onto the bottom of the seniority list as a line pilot) or was he brought straight into management?

The captain was out of line. Like it or not it’s in the contract. The “you stay home and get get nothing so I can collect double pay” line is tiresome.

Draw yourself a picture of WS after a GS. I don't think it has the impact you are imply

The Captain was entirely in line making the comment. An out of base FO has zero impact on an in base Captain. He was sharing a perspective the FO had not considered. Letting him know it was bad form to brag about his OOBWS, especially in front of an in base FO was a polite lesson in manners. He commented that other FOs besides yours truly may not be quite so accepting of his jubilance.

That was the captain's point. It's in the contract and everyone will accept it, but not everyone will share in the excitement. The suggestion was to curb the enthusiasm, especially in front of and in base FO. I'll stand by my comment that it was a very polite lesson in reading the room before making a comment.

Under that logic, you’ve probably lost quite a few GS to in base WS.
What if the reserve guy YS the trip you wanted? Did he take your GS too?
This argument is old and tired. Get over it. There are much larger problems in the PWA.
Signed,
A guy who never OOBWS
