Contract 2026

As a captain, I really don’t think the chief pilot is going to have my back fighting over crew meals. It’s just easier to not engage. One of the bases actually went to far to show us their manual that says we get last choice. Sometimes our meals are marked as “pilot.” In that situation, it’s black and white though.

I’ve heard, but not seen firsthand, that the OBM does not specifically say pilots get meals first. And since it doesn’t align with our pubs, they don’t care (sometimes.) I’ve been part of 4 LCs in the past 4 months, each LCA emphasized that you’re CA is either incorporating what meal choice you’d like on the initial briefing, or they’re doing it wrong. One had even said as a DH pax he specifically overheard the lead tell the other FAs “you get what you want, the pilots can have what’s left” and said LCA intervened.

Are you talking about blue days before or after the 20th? In most categories, every day is blue before people start dropping on the 20th month prior. After the 20th, everyone who can drop does, and most blue days go away. If the company were to add more numbers to the blue days, they would still get dropped until black, then there would be even more trips in open time for res to staff.
Pre-20th no blue? Yea that's not enough reserves.

I started bringing my food after multiple instances of asking them nicely of anything but X...only for them to say all they have left is X, when I ask for my meal. OK well screw me then, I'm allergic so I guess I'll take snacks.

This is a corporate culture issue that we, as a group, have let fester. The captain should roll in and say "hey, we get our contractual crew meals, this is what we want, and this is when we'd like them". Over. Done. Zero argument.
Instead we've let this slide, and there will be the devil to pay to unwind that.

I'm all for the ability to being able to pick what we want before the FA's or Pax's, I'm just saying I don't think our current PWA wording supports that.

The FA OBM and the Policy Handbook are available for your reading pleasure on the In-flight section of Deltanet.....scroll down on the right side to "Popular Tools" and will see links to the documents.

Their work rules (Program and Policy Handbook) Chapter 12 states "Passengers will be offered their choice of entree first, followed by the crew" as well as a note stating something along the lines of there will not be a “CREW” or “PILOT” designator on the entree's as these entrees may be used for a customer choice first, if needed....these two bullets is why the FA's have the 'pilots get whatever is left after PAX pick first' mentality.

So, if FA’s are saying they get choice before us, they are making that up. (Note: it does not say pilots get choice before FA’s either, though I submit it should. In fact I submit we should have UA language where we get to preselect from more than 2-3 choices…).

This might be a dumb question, but is there any way to go back and change answers to the contract survey? There were a few things where I put I did not have a strong opinion, but after reading this thread I have changed my mind. For example, I am firmly in the category of not switching to a rolling sick bank with monthly accrual.
