This is the best they’ve determined they’re allowed to do, since they can’t discipline under the PWA.
I would argue that anyone who is afraid to call out sick after receiving this letter should reconsider their choice of profession. Part of this job involves being able to say “unable”, including directly to management, whenever necessary.

The threshold for getting fired as a Delta pilot is incredibly high. No pilot has ever been fired from Delta for calling out sick, except when the company was able to directly prove that they were blatantly lying. As much as Delta Flight Ops management has been trying to mimic that of a low-tier regional as of late, they will never succeed at disciplining a pilot for legitimate sick calls — or any other contractual use of leave.

The “letter”, or any of management’s other low-ball intimidation tactics, should never be anywhere near any pilot’s mind as they evaluate their fitness for duty. It’s our professional responsibility to tell these clowns to pound sand whenever necessary.

I know that, you know that, and most pilots who post on here know that. There’s still a large pool of pilots that probably don’t, and allow themselves to be scared.

Of course there are. We also have pilots on the seniority list with restricted ATPs. Pilots who got hired at 23 years old. Pilots born after 9/11. Pilots who never experienced what it was like to truly be taken advantage of.

And everything in between.

The last thing you and the family need is your boss sending you some sort of "disciplinary" letter.

This behavior exhibited is borderline psychopathic. I hope that someone up the food chain pulled some people aside and put some boot to az over this. Simply shocking behavior from these people.
Decided to delete some colorful stuff from my post and instead,

HK, I think you've worked over there amongst these types, what gives?

Hiring mins are flexible for the right candidate.
I have personally seen a restricted ATP certificate from a DAL jumpseater. I have also talked to many LCAs who have confirmed that yes, there are quite a few out there.

Given the barely adequate Delta training, this scares the hell out of me.

Full ATP requirements, but not the actual certificate. From: https://www.delta.com/us/en/careers/pilots/hiring-faqs

At least 23 years of age.
FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument - Airplane.
Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
All aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as set forth in 14 CFR §61.159.
Current ATP written exam.
Minimum of 1,500 hours of total documented flight time.

Note the Commercial Pilot Certificate. A candidate doesn't actually even have to hold a restricted ATP.

Dude I really don't know. I was in there during grinstein, Anderson and a little of EB. The last SVP of flight ops I worked with was SD. I have a hunch what's going down but I will refrain as you did with my colorful language on the matter.

I think most of you folks know and you understand it. What I don't get is the continued animus towards our group. It doesn't make sense to me and is very counter productive.

We all want our airline to succeed and be a profit generating machine. We have more at stake since we are chained to this galley. It would make sense to cease and desist with this behavioral experiment they've been pushing for the last 6-7 years. It's not working.
