Every 4-day from hell on the md88 was a sacrifice for every other fleet!
This was my experience, life on the 320A in NY was great. Good, productive trips, comfortable layovers.

Then….

While that probably did correlate to an extent, 320 trips in NYC took a dive prior to the 88’s retirement. It was mostly the optimizer which allegedly doesn’t exist. One cycle they bragged about doubling the number of commutable trips from the previous month…to 3% up from 1.5.

The 88 leaving isn’t to blame and an extra leg or two really isn’t either, it’s the sits and especially the constant plane changes that make it sting so much. And every rotation launching between 5-7am and not getting back til 10pm or later. Once when asked why, they said “because New Yorkers like to leave early and get back late.” LOL, um, then why is the rest of the day still full of flying?

It makes sense to make NYC the least commutable base. To show all those commuters!

LOL right! There was a time that “the deal” was always that we know it’s super junior and not the easiest commute and a really high cost place to live, so we’ll make the trips commutable and fairly good in exchange. The NYC 73 base used to be cherry as did the purely international ER base there and both categories were pretty junior. The 88 trips weren’t quite as good but there was lots of thunder and greenies there long before those became commonplace.

anyone heard from someone's experience calling in sick after receiving the "letter?" curious if there was extra scrutiny or if they're doing automatic GFB calls.

Right, but they’re not the intended audience either. It merely serves as a reminder that no pilot here should take anything this management team says seriously. Handel’s letter isn’t worth the flimsy piece of paper it’s written on.

I got sick, called it in a few days after the letter. No issues. Can't say the letter wasn't on my mind though.

I never got the letter. But I sure heard about it. I was sick so I called in sick. I can't deny that the back of my mind had the letter on it. Nothing else happened.
