How do you guys handle situations where you're not sick, but can't make it into work? You have an 8am show and the nanny calls at 6 saying she can't make it in? Do you have some sort of alternate process to handle that? We (AA) can call a chief to get out of a trip if needed, but that's usually for something well in advance like a wedding, etc...anything inside of a few days out and the expectation is to just bang in, regardless of the reason behind it. Yes it's called sick time but I don't understand how they can expect you to only use it when you're sick unless you have some other kind of banked PTO process I'm unaware of?

We have a similar process; however, it's case-by-case. I have never heard of a situation where the CPO won't help, but I would imagine if you were someone who did this often, it could raise some questions. I agree with you, sick time is sick time; the reasons behind the sick call should be irrelevant. This sick time is time you earned and is part of your compensation package.

My wife, who was recovering from brain surgery ended up in the hospital for something else (tripped over dog, sprained ankle)
I had already commuted up for a TOE trip going to Germany. I was in the NYC lounge, and went into the CP office.
Neighbor took her to ER.
"since someone's taking care of her, unless its going to cause child care issues, you can't be personal dropped, and if you go home it will be considered a failure to report, you cannot call out sick for this because YOU are not sick"
I was a new hire, on probation, and that was my first time ever dealing with the CPO. Hadn't even been here long enough to have my first New Hire meeting.
So it wasn't like I was a known problem child or something.

Very case by case.

So I think it can vary with the time period and/or CP team. 🤷♂️

This is the same old tired playbook....
Company announces new aircraft type.
Company starts busting on people for uniforms, sick calls.
Company starts taking hostages.
This is contract negotiations.
I saw it at regionals, pre merger company and now here.

We don’t make as much as you think. In my area, the median household income is just under $250k per year. Basically a senior first officer’s salary that isn’f picking up overtime.

Neighbors are a tech guy, a musician, executive chef for Met Life, guy who owns a landscaping company and a couple corporate lawyers.
We do well, but its not like I have the biggest house on the biggest hill on the biggest side of town. /ricflair

Do you mean your specific neighborhood/town?

I think you live in an outlier area that’s not representative of the typical American’s experience.
