No, I think DAL is in a position to exploit a few options.

They are looking for our help on HND. It serves us to keep service in an area where we could see a CS or JV and when that happens the flying would be harder to regain. Keeping block time on Transpacs=pilots jobs= good for DAL pilots.

Asia is growing, and Europe stinks. Why fight or not contribute to something that helps keep senior pilots in their current seats. Its good for every DAL pilot to keep a route on a very slot restricted airport?

China's economy has levelled out for the time being. It has actually contracted a bit over the past two months.

That said, China has 20+ cities with over 10 million people each. There is certainly expansion opportunity there. I have heard we are looking at adding Guangzao (sp?) (even while we pull back in Hong Kong) Apparently, Guangzao is just over the "border" from HK.

Is anyone hearing any other Asia expansion cities? I am not.

Guangzao was a route NW formerly flew out of NRT. Started with a 757 then went to 330. The city is a huge manufacturing destination for first world companies looking for cheap labor. When the recession started NW dropped it due to low demand of the manufacturing sector. I think UAL even had a 747 or 777 going direct from the mainland. It would be good to return there.

I have heard that too. In fact the rumor I heard was that China was the one that requested us to serve it. We will see if we ever start it.

There are a lot of opportunities in Asia. We are seeing steady progress in Asia.

TEN

Yea, never understood that. NWA had the same number of schedulers for half the pilots and they had far more automation working for them, to boot.

Except for the whole PENTRY thing at midnight. I never understood why they kept that manual process while using automation everywhere else.

Yep,

Plenty of expansion opportunity. Think of all the hiring the DAL code share partners like Korean will have to do just to keep up with the DAL code share growth.

In todays environment network growth does not necessarily mean Pilot opportunity. Conversely, the old thinking that an airline cannot shrink to profitability probably no longer applies. DAL mainline can shrink as the DAL "Network" grows, all thanks to Codeshares, JVs, connection carriers etc, basically all terms describing outsourcing.

I believe that is the 4th.

FWIW, the CP's in NYC are saying there is announcement the 5th. These things come and go though.

Last time there was good chatter about a NYC announcement out of the NYC CPO it was for the slot swap.
