If she's mainly using it to read, I'd get the Paperwhite. My wife and I have owned many models of Kindle over the years, and for pure reading, the e-ink models can't be beat. We also own iPads, and while those are great for internet and media consumption (movies, games, etc...) - the screens aren't ideal for extended periods of reading, especially in bright light. That said, if you're looking for a full-on communication device that'll let her browse the net, write e-mail, and so on - get the Fire (or iPad Mini). If she's a big reader, you'll be buying her an e-ink Kindle later on anyway. |

By the time PBS got to me I knew I would be working 12/24-12/25.
So I did not even ask for those days off!! I just said ok if I have to fly I want these trips!! Well it says my very first choice was pulled during a reshuffle. Instead of being with relatives over 12/24. I have two trips one ends too late to get home 12/24 and then I have another trip leaving on 12/25! Perfect if I lived in base! But the kicker! My very first trip that I wanted is still in open time! W T F?? anyone know why?? Would your preferred trip put you outside of the LCW? That bought me a 3 day uncummutable on both ends vs a 4 day commutable both ends that paid 4 hours more. |

Dont ask why I know... did the same thing 2 years ago. Gotta bid avoid those trips to force them on another schmuck who forgot to do that... Cheers George |

I bought the Nexus 7 and so far like it a lot. I do believe that the e-ink readers (B&N Glow light or Kindle Paperwhite) are best for long term reading. The Nexus 7 is light, has Netflix, Kindle and Nook apps in addition to Google Music, Books, Magazines and TV/Movies. The 16 GB model is down to $199 and the 32 GB model is $249. Nice display (1280x800 IPS), light (.75 lbs) and there will soon be a solution for beaming to TVs (Miracast). If you already have an Android Phone you won't have to rebuy the apps - another benny.

You're going to have to explain that again. So it awarded Fig and went on down the list, found that there were too many trips and went back and gave him another trip because... it wanted to give him a bigger trip (or I guess multiple trips)?
That stinks. yup if you are in the middle of the pack of lineholder you are most at risk. The senior guys get their schedule As PBS moves down the list building lines, trips will begin stacking around holidays. Once a certain threshold is reached PBS will attempt to reduce the stack If you haven't protected yourself via avoid you'll end up with extra trips. This unstacking might be effective enough that junior guys don't end up unstacked, especially if they protected themselves via their bid. There's a pretty good PBS Notepad 35 (11/05/2009) explaining the process. Cheers George |
