What's this about uniform inspections?

DALPA's asleep at the switch (yet again).

Standby for sailingfun's usual attempt to condition us that it's not DALPA's job to do anything on our behalf.

Dude, really. Do you ever have ANYTHING good to say?

And I'll own the seniority list.

that's an idea. but i think a start up is better. one that is ULCC but with all of the frills of a foreign legacy, except the frills are paid for via advertising on the outside and inside of the plane... and you pay some... and we use secondary airports without all of the delays!!!! like St Augustine instead of Jacksonville, Lakeland instead of Orlando, that little airport with the runway and no facilities you always see on the Erlin- instead of ATL, Toledo instead of Detroit, Scranton instead of New York, Springfield instead of Chicago, Chico instead of SFO, Bakersfield instead of LAX, Abilene instead of Dallas, Cheyenne instead of DEN.

Should work out great.

Sounds like an airline that's already out there!

WRT to Uniform policy and the PA announcement.
PLease explain to me how this will be implemented at our connection carriers? I am sick and tired to being told how to do things, how to wear the uniform, how to act and I walk around terminal C and it looks like a F*&(&*$ high school hallway with slick backed hair, backpacks, no hats, rumpled jackets, and sunglasses on. I have absolutely NO problem with the company dictacting how I do my job. They pay the check I will wear what I am told and how. If they want me to make a PA i will it might not be every 15 min but I wil make an effort. BUT they need to hold the express guys accountable or SEVER the link. Remove the express carriers, remove the name anything. I am really tired of me and my fellow delta pilots going above and beyond to do and wear the right thing only to have it screwed up by an express pilot who doesnt give a shet All our good effort and good will can be eliminated in a fraction of a section by a bad express experience. IMHO Flight ops should be spending their efforts educating the express carriers on the same policy and if they dont comply, GOOD BYE!
I am out

Ironic. I remember getting an edict like this at DCI years ago, plus they wanted PAs every 15 minutes when pax were delayed on the airplane. It sounded good at first, superior customer service and all that. Then we'd get one of those 4-hour taxi nightmares during the late push at JFK. (they still have those?) So, do you do 16 PAs like the book says or do you use common sense? As for the gatehouse, certainly a pilot has more gravitas than the crazy stuff gate agents say sometimes. But let's say a line of thunderstorms shuts down the ramp in ATL, what are you going to say after the first PA? (Yep, folks, still raining!) The best part is - should you comply - you find yourself explaining and apologizing for failures in the operation that you have no control over. Enjoy!

And I'll use 747s.

And go back to hot flight attendants.

And you're damn right I'll have these Captains doing PA's every 14 minutes.

^^ And my gate agents will be dressed for success.

"Hey! Why weren't you around 45 mins ago when we first learned of the delay to appease all these irate passengers! Aren't you required to do that now? I'm writing you up!"

I think if anyone tries to tell a DC-9 or MD88 guy, who after his fourth or fifth leg is confronted with a delay, that he has to do anything other than:

1.) regroup,
2.) find a quiet spot,
3.) get some food,
4.) and/or rest up for your last leg,

they are going to get their feelings hurt.

What amazes me more is when an agent does make a PA about a gate change or delay and the amount of people who come up and say "was there a gate change?", or "when are we boarding?", or "what zone are you calling?" etc.
People don't listen anyway.

+1 for Scoop and sinkr8 etc.
Say "No" to creeping work-rules.

Now, about this uniform pants thing... am I the only one that had to go shopping today for some Delta-black pants that were 1 size larger than my normal ones? I mean, that dam* turkey, there's just soooo much of it! Leftover this, leftover that, and you gotta eat it up fairly quickly or it goes bad...

So my tempo pair of pants will allow me to be comfortable on a 4 hour, for the next couple weeks while I get back into fighting trim, but I gotta admit the BX didn't have the exact same material. I was a bit astounded when I was told by two Capts over 1000 seniority who both stated they bought Dockers as their pants, having always gotten those Abbot Navy ones... but after my first experience "up-gauging" I may kinda see that slippery slope.

How does "Ladies and Gentleman, we're going to begin boarding for our first class passengers or are those traveling with small children and need extra time boarding may do so at this time. Again, we are boarding only first class passengers and those traveling with small children."

some how goes through that microphone and comes out the speakers as..

"Everyone up and RUSH THE DOOR, IMMEDIATELY, HURRY UP, PUSH AND SHOVE EVERYONE, EVERYONE RUN!!!! DO EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET ON BOARD AS FAST AS YOU CAN... THIS IS THE LAST HELICOPTER OUT OF VIETNAM!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So as the Captain explains, "Ladies and gentleman, we were just informed by the crew of the inbound flight that the aircraft has a mechanical issue and our Maintenance department is looking at the issue right now and will give us an estimated time for it to be fixed. As soon as they give it to us I'll pass it along to you."

Passenger hears: "This airlines crappy pilots broke the plane. Their mechanics don't know how to fix it and probably aren't there. I'm going to be late. Really late. This sucks."

Deadheading Bucking Bar hears: "MD-88."

;)

Although knock on wood, the 88 has been very good, I do celebrate when the 90 gives us a headache free flight.

How does a stock Toyota Tundra pull a 250,000 space shuttle?

Does that ruin that truck?

It was on a downhill grade, so the Shuttle was actually pushing the truck. :D

They ruined 4 Shuttles just filming it and that's why NASA had to retire them...
