ALPA negotiated contracts commonly have a statement in them to the effect of:
"A pilot will only be required to perform those duties directly related to his certification or training as an airline pilot." Making a gate PA has nothing to do with being an airline pilot other than the fact that they want it to be a pilot doing it. That is a customer service function that does not occur in an aircraft. If this line is in your contract, thats why you have to put the gear down even though you're not contractually obligated to. If its not in your contract... well... enjoy making those PAs. haha. |

To be someone who claims to be so company focused and who want's to do what is best for the company, I would think that you might see the benefit of NOT making a comment that disparages almost half of the pilot group by associating them with a negative attitude.
The merger was 4 years ago. North is no different than South. One big happy family, right? edit: Clarification: I'm talking about Randy 1 and the more junior Randy... The middle Randy is great! |

Why are females with horse faces considered attractive? I can judge feminine beauty but, sorry, she ain't it. Having flown Delta regularly for nearly 3 years, there are a lot better candidates.
Kyra Sedgewick; her face is made up of several unattractive parts when combined are somehow attractive. Kim Kardashian; pretty until she opens her mouth. Deltalina; never seen her in person. I've heard she is attractive because she's intelligent and engaging. |
Deltalina is much hotter in person.

Does it expressly state that in the contract? Do a keyword search for "safe" in the contract. The first one is in the NTSB definition, the second is in the Relocation section, the third talks about unsafe international airlines for deadheading. We have no contractual obligation to operate safely. The point I've been politely trying to make is that operating climate (like making PAs, and putting the gear down) are a condition of our employment. The section you'd reference for not putting the gear down is Section 18.
I know you are being polite. I just want to make sure I understand. It seems to me that you are admitting that us operating the aircraft we fly in a safe manner is an implied provision of our contract. No? Is there a difference between an express contractual provision and an implied contractual provision? |

However they're addressed differently in terms of the grievance process. |
Jeez, if you don't wanna make the PAs don't do them.
Can we beat this dead horse any more??? |
