Because what you are discussing sounds like the company is shifting back to a "bean counter" mentality, and would rather maintain status quo and wait for another section 6 opening rather than engage us "constructively." You also state that the company feels that they have "lost" financially on the LOA's of the recent past and is not interested in "engaging" us to continue the process of mid-contract tweaks.
Maybe I am just reading too much in to this... The will re-engage as they see fit. Since Delta can now negotiate with other pilot groups, engagement with us is not nearly as important as it used to be. Welcome to the portfolio guys. |
---------- In other news ... 2014 Corvette Stingray is "appealing." Anyone doing the NAIAS ? Delta is the "Premier Sponsor" but best I can tell that does not mean any non public access to Delta employees. (at my previous employer if we sponsored it, we generally acted liked we owned the place and could get in on non public days ) http://www.firstcoastnews.com/images...004-medium.jpg

Delta bought Pinnacle, did a deal with their pilots and purchased half of Virigin Atlantic without so much as a "how do you do ?" I'd say "constructive engagement" ended as soon as Delta Air Lines had our yes vote.

If the above is true, then it sure sounds to me like the Company has decided to end the era of "constructive engagement."
Many think the company will be chomping at the bit to get 2 pilots ops for 9 block hours and 3 pilot ops one hour over the current limit for 4. But that hinges around a provision in the new rules that eliminate the "legal to start legal to finish" aspect of that one rule. IOW, it becomes a hard time, projected at throttle up, or a gate return must occur. Not only does this make 8:59 2 pilot ops a risk, it makes 8:01 pilot ops a risk. Assuming the average for 8-9 hour 2 pilot ops would be 8:30, that means that, on average, any 30 minute delay would cause a gate return and possible cancellation or massive re-crew delay. They will spend far more money on that than they will save axing the number of FO positions on the 8-9 hour only flights, not to mention the hits to the operation and subsequent follow on costs. There may be a few 8:03 turns they would like to have and would be willing to carry the risks, especially if they were multipile leg hub to hub days where they could recrew easier, but we would obviously want something for that, so what we wanted, even if minimal, would likely blow the cost savings of that tiny rarely used benefit out of the water in the first place. As for the 8-9 hour 2 crew ops, the potential savings is minimal and the inherent costs and risks are steep and statistically guaranteed. I just don't see the company eager to come to the negotiating table and give us anything to get something they, after careful review, would likely not really even want. |

Too much talk like that and you are going to get personally attacked by the chief architect and chief salesman. They might even try to "out" you. |

I'll come by Livonia on my way if anyone wants to catch a ride. Planning on the 19th, but I'm on call and not sure if I'll get SC that day. I can seat 4 more comfortably if anyone is bored on a layover.
