That made me go peruse the 9 bid pack again, which made me want to puke. I wouldn't even consider it, but college bills are looming large.

On that note, I rode a 9 to work the other day, and I swear both of the pilots looked like they were 70 years old. I thought it must be OE, but the right seater was wearing FO stripes. I'd worry about calling them out on-line, but they probably don't know about the internets yet.

I'd probably look like that after a couple of years of DC-9 flying.

According to the update, they are closing ATL DC9 and DTW DC9 on the March bid.

That is true. However, the DC9 will be flying through the summer.

Therefore, we could see a large number of DC9 pilots bid off on the next AE, leaving us with a shortage of DC9 pilots without the ability to backfill those positions prior to the summer peak flying season. Our goal in Crew Resources is to make sure we have the staffing to fly the schedule that Network sends us; we do not want to leave revenue on the table by cancelling flights.

So I guess they're simply saying if you're on the DC9 & successfully bid off, you may not convert until the fall. No backfilling, but they may hold you hostage for the summer.

Yeah but it has to be staffed this summer. It was also supposed to be closed this year.

Hardest flying I ever did, just a lot of thinking, manual flying. On nice days it was fun, but 5 legs a day when the weather is bad, hot, no fun. That being said, there are currently about 30 guys senior to low 7000 on the AE calculator thing. I would bet that you will not see Captain go junior anymore with people having stagnated for so long and the need for the bucks.

It is a 365 day bid.

I agree they will not train until later. I was just pointing out to the comment about backfilling. You will not see it on a closed category.

My response was "well still I see the same ones all the time at work."

I don't believe that cargo is a part of the JV with AF.

NWA freight operation was on the decline for sometime prior to being shutdown completely.

That was almost exclusively due to horrible mismanagement.

Old age and deceit will overcome youth and ambition. :p
