Good news for any CHS-NYC commuter. Jet blue just inaugerated that service today. The first flt just landed in CHS. They are putting on an inaugeation dog and pony show that is a lttle (opposite of hetrosexual), but its good to have more options for the commuters.

Reserve staffing goes up and down by category. I bet system wide reserve usage not up. Guys complained on here last fall that they were being abused by alv15 and it was not even in use! We have been overstaffed in the copilot categories for a long time. Well thought out anti furlough clauses kept the company from furloughing those surplus pilots. We are working through those surpluses now so reserves will work more. It also means the company will have to hire soon.

I. Is Wok and Roll in MSP, or is that DTW?

Timbo,
It's in MSP...there are two...one in the main terminal, one in the C concourse. The one in C is better IMO. Try the house fried rice, medium spicy. Chicken, pork and shrimp and lots of it, plus they cook it up for you, not just sitting in a pot.

I've got to go up there tonight for a flt. out tomorrow. Is Wok and Roll in MSP, or is that DTW? I don't get to either place very often, but I'll be looking for a good lunch tomorrow.

FWIW, Wok & Roll in the center terminal at MSP is a great deal. Go for the stuff off the menu, not the typical stuff sitting under the heat lamps. House Special Lo Mein is easily a pound of food for around 6 dollars.

Thanks QB, I think I had that the one time I ate there, about a year ago that's why I couldn't remember if it was MSP or DTW.

A local in the crew room recommended Wok and Roll, "Get the Delta Special" I thought was what they said, might have been house special?

I got it, had to wait 5 minutes, as you said, for them to cook it up, but it was great, sounds like what you are describing.

I'll be sure to get there early enough to get that again! Thanks.

Thank goodness

Glad to see the EU block it. Last thing we need is that scumbag O'Leary getting his filthy mits on Aer Lingus.

Thanks for negotiating away something we fought for a couple short years ago.

Company making record profits, and ALPA negotiates a concessionary contract. #FAIL

Freebird,

My Category (LAX 73 FO) has many Pilots with 0 credit. Reserve usage issues are totally category specific and change each month.

As far as ALV + 15 not being the culprit - how could it be?

Unless guys are over the ALV it is not really in play.

Reserve manning has not changed yet with regard to ALV+15 so if some reserves were flying over the ALV some reserves would be flying less.

I don't like ALV+15 but I don't think it will matter very much for the following reasons:

Once hiring starts being on reserve for more than a year or so will be much more of a choice than it has been for the last 10 years.

Regular line holders white-slipping to the maximum seems to be the new normal for a lot of guys - this eliminates a lot of open time.

If reserve guys fly to ALV+15 they will be making a bigger paycheck so I bet many guys on reserve will be hoping for the 16 hour call when just below the ALV and why not.

Yes some will get the call who don't want it and would rather be finished. But many reserves probably appreciate the opportunity to fly more - remember the reserve guys complaining they never break guarantee and it was not fair the lineholders get to white-slip while they get shutdown.

Personally I wish we had the old Bow wave system to limit guys from flying their A$$$es off each month. I would prefer to make more by moving into the left seat sooner.

Bow wave would be good, but if DALPA thinks the scope crowd is annoying wait till the 87+ credit guys start screaming.

But what was the old saying? more money, more time off?

The more we ask for or involuntarily fly more, the fewer seats per category, the fewer upgrades to higher paying categories or from a worthless nobody to Captain.

It's not just about adding people behind you but seats ahead of you.

nwaf16dude 02-28-2013 07:00 AM

Agree with Scoop. I tried hard to make a little extra on reserve for the first few months, but I never even got close to breaking guarantee, so I pretty much gave up. Now I just try to avoid flying, unless I have to go to ATL for short call. In that case, I'll throw in a yellow slip just to avoid paying for hotels, but that doesn't even work these days. I've been sitting in this crappy hotel room for three days and can't touch a trip because of all the white slips, even for weekend trips.

Obviously things are different in other categories, and they will be different for me in the summer (especially if I get displaced), but we are a long way from having a system-wide problem with ALV + 15. Will I eat crow in a couple of years? Maybe, but I doubt it.
