I'm not trying to downplay the sour turn your career took. Please understand that. I won't pretend to know how you feel. I simply can't. I was 28 when I was hired. Two guys in my class were junior to me, the youngest @ 25 years of age. The last decade of this career is likely the worst ever experienced. It shattered the dreams and expectations of many, & it sucks. But it's over, & it's not coming back. We are witnessing a crazy transformation of the way the industry will do business, & Delta is leading the pack. I feel it will pay off for the pilots, and that will happen soon. As I said before, I hope your left seat comes sooner then you expect. And thanks for the cordial discussion. I find these discussion very entertaining and insightful. I envy your enthusiasm. I also wish I was 32 or 33 like you. I would be very excited about my career prospects. So like I said to Sailing keep up the good work all of us 2000 and 2001 hires need daily reminders of what is good. Also, don't be sorry about my career (You certainly had nothing to do with it). I'm in good company with several thousand at Delta in the same boat as me. Many more at United and American. But I do wish that the company would be honest with us. We are grown men and women they owe it to us to be truthful. |

Retirement Age
I dont know if 62.5 years is the average age that guys are leaving at or not, but so what? The average was never 60 in the past. The important thing to remember is that the average age just went up about 5 years. So if it is 62.5 then it probably was about 57.5 previously.
Some guys got an instant 5 year windfall. Guys who are FOs get stuck for 5 more years in the right seat, but others were screwed over even worse - like the guys who hit 60 before the change. And retirements don't help the bottom guys with a shrinking airline. Scoop |

We did not get the expected 300 ER's however the 196 we did get are more valuable to the pilot group over time then the 300 expected because of the demographics. You would not be very smart if you wanted to trade what was expected for what actually occurred in the ER program. |
