Don't think you have to worry. Do you know how many commuters we have from the northeast that want NYC? A lot. It's a junior base for DAL-S, but will be no where near as junior once it opens to DAL-N. Every northeast commuter I talk to wants to be able to drive to work. You'd be luck to hold it if you wanted to.

That would be fine by me. :) Open up DTW or MSP. I'm happy to have either one. :)

Trips start and end at the same airport.

I've actually seen 4 day -88 trips that start/finish in JFK, but have 3 LGA overnights.

Your trip has to start and end at the same airport. If you end at another airport they have to give you transportation to the airport where you originated (with ground transport credit added to the rotation).

Also, if your trip has mid trip stops in another airport...say you originate out of LGA and mid trip lays over in jfk, they have to give you a hotel room since you flew into another airport.

Thanks guys. :)

How about an AE Bidding guide? :)

That's great to hear!

I know a few months back it seem's like one of the councils were sent something that showed the demographics of where everyone lived on each side comparable to each of our current bases.

Did the rest of us ever get that? I'm not always the best at checking my email.

If you are an NYC MD88 pilot, FlyinPiker is correct. All trips start and end at the check-in location. For whatever reason they don't (I've never seen this), they will set you up with ground transportation. Sometimes your trip will start a rotation in at one base and layover in another. In this case, they provide you with a hotel room and the layover is considered like any other layover would.

Reserve call out is to any of the three locations, LGA, EWR, JFK. Remember the Delta Shuttle is on the Marine Air Terminal side of LGA -- not mainside. You only need to be within response time to any one of these three bases.

If you live west of EWR (away from JFK / LGA) and they call you for a trip reporting at JFK, be honest and tell them where you are and how long it will take you. Scheduling will most likely call someone else if they are in a pinch. Otherwise, depending on traffic, it could take you ... 3, 4, 5 hours to get to JFK/LGA. They know this. CPO will even send you notes and/or phone messages that warn you of things that will close bridges and tunnels; for example the NY marathon, parades, etc.etc.

Never saw a memo, but unofficially...A lot of our DTW commuters live in the NE, or SE(especially FL). Lots of MSP commuters from the west coast and SW. As for MEM, I don't think anyone voluntarily commutes there:D Schedules in MEM are not commuter friendly.

The sign in times for EWR tend to be early too(0600-0715) and block ins are after 2100...making the trek to/from Queens or a commute even more complicated. For the early sign ins, I commute in the day before and get a hotel near EWR. There's supposedly a company bus for FA's that runs from LGA to EWR to Kew I've heard about, but never really looked into it. Other than a car service, it's buses, trains and subways thru Manhattan.

There are 156 N pilots that live within 180 miles of JFK.

But what about FedEx? Seems like that makes everything commuter friendly... albeit in a redeye kind of way.

So what is going to be the most commuter friendly base post SOC? Seniority takes you far, decent crashpads, lots of flights, not a whole heck of a lot of commuters like a DFW-ATL, etc?

I think too much emphasis is put on proximity when commuting, such as all of the DALN FL commuters will surely bid ATL, its closer. If you can't drive it within 3-5 hours then you're probably going to fly and at that point you won't care if its a 1.5 hour flight to ATL or 2.5 hour to NY/DTW. You want frequency, crashpads and you want commutability, i.e. you need a base where you max your seniority potential.

Just wondering, say you're a commuter from south FL, which way is best? ATL, JFK or DTW? What about DFW commuter? ATL, DTW, NYC, MEM or MSP? And so on...

I think we'll see plenty of so-flo commuters in mem, atl and dtw....the dfw guys will probably migrate to msp and mem.
