Got a link?

Training you to fly with less than full automation? Are you kidding me? If a pilot cannot operate without full automation he/she should not be here.

Show me anywhere that Delta has pushed full automation all the time. In fact the FOM says we need to remain proficient in all levels of automation.

During training. Everything I got other than some visuals in the sim was full up, all auto, kick it off around or after the FAF.

Thanks, ftb. Passengers got hit by an emergency vehicle in Sioux City?

I'd heard that but I'm not sure. Something about walking away from the accident in the corn field and being hit by fire trucks.

Ha! I had almost forgotten about that. I wasn't lying, was I? :)

No sir. It was a smooth flight and I heard no screaming. :)

That's pretty illogical (nothing personal- just it doesn't follow)... Follow me here:

The sim by nature is going to be mostly automated. You're typically dealing with abnormals and have to manage the aircraft appropriately. A higher level of automation is preferred when one guy is head down running the QRH and coordinating all the stuff that accompanies that. So, of course you don't get to hand fly a bunch in the sim since you're dealing with the aircraft breaking most of the time.

Line operations are largely normal ops, right? So, it follows that a reduction in automation would not only be appropriate but encouraged during line operations until things go south.

Hand flying is a minimal workload increase for the PM and I expect/anticipate the other guy to hand fly a while until proven otherwise. It's not that massive of a workload increase, even out of NYC or the like... I'd hardly call it a burden. I got this job because I like pressing buttons- not trying to avoid it.

What's Nicolau?

Nicolau was the arbiter who did the SLI between USair and America West. It's referred to as the Nicolau list.

It was a more or less relative list sans the A330 slots that US brought to the merger. All people on furlough at US were given slots behind america west pilots.

Please, based on the TA, no more negotiations; I don't think they can get much more out of us, but I don't want to press to test. The angst most NO voters feel, at least for me, was from:

Delta Pilots took huge paycuts and lose pension.
Company makes record profits post bankruptcy and pays down debt.
Other employees get back to pre-bankruptcy pay levels.
Time to thank the pilots....by getting concessions and taking some profit sharing for TVM pay increase and other bennies (sacrastic comment removed before hitting "submit reply").

As was said by someone else recently: please, no more negotiating. Just don't play that game because you're not good at it. Instead take the COLA increase, cuz otherwise we're losing.

Survive a plan crash, moments later get hit by a truck.

I will take pause from here on out when I start to think life isn't fair....

Absolutely.... Life is fragile. Pilots save 100's of lives every time they land a jet. I think it is important to remember we are surrounded by incredibly talented people and yet these accidents can and do happen.

No kidding.. not to mention in this case being sharted out the newly opened back end of a 777 and surviving it, only to be run over by a fire truck.

And I thought I've had bad days before...
