Aug Bid results-- I really do think the new top-down denial has had an effect. Like 80, this is the worst schedule I've gotten for years. Four day redeyes worth 16 hours, while guys below me are getting at least 21hr 4 day redeyes.
I went through with PBS desktop bidder and also the flightline software, and looked at what happened to my pool of available trips using the new top-down denial if (as happened) the new method denied "avoid redeyes" halfway down my bad-stuff list. Using the old method, by the time it reached "avoid redeyes" and denied it to be able to build me a schedule, it would have ALSO denied "avoid saturdays" "avoid sundays", "avoid landings in Mexico", "avoid landings in Dominican Republic", etc. There would have been a pool of about 50 trips to choose from, and all my "award good trips based on credit/day" would have at least gotten me a decent paying redeye. HOWEVER, now the algorithm starts out by saying "you MUST have a redeye to have a line, so I'll just remove this..." and it then allows all the other avoids... so when it finally gets to the very first AWARD attempt, well it has only about 10 redeyes in the pot and they are all the worst paying crappers in the package. Sure they don't land in Mex or SD and are on the weekday, but what I get on the first attempt is alllllll bad redeyes because that higher avoid was deleted, while the junior avoids remained, leaving ONLY bad redeyes in the available pot for the first completion attempt. We're going to have to do some serious what-if rewriting of our bids due to this new methodology, I thought it was a good thing but further study of the results shows me it will take a LOT more bid lines to make it work correctly... When you figure out how to write out your bid, can you share what you've discovered? I'm not a PBS guru and just keep it simple. I'm thinking using avoid, else reserve is the new methodology. |

With the possibility of new pilots joining us, I propose a new video link on APC to help them learn the ropes. We could call it YouNoob. Some suggested channels:
The Bucking Bar Channel - MD88 engineering triumphs...YouNoob's shortest video series. The Buzzpat Channel - Want a successful life?...pick a hot wife. The how to guide. The Jesse Channel - A photo album. The 80ktsClamp Channel - How to successfully blame the other pilot for farting in a two man cockpit. Coming soon: The Magic Carpet Ride...a how to guide. The Forgot To Bid Channel - A guide to bidding. The Denny Crane Channel - Finding fulfillment...even though you'll never be DennyCrane! The Tsquare Channel - A tutorial of putting people on your ignore list. The FIIGMO Channel - A guide to the Fox News Channel. The Delta I.T. Channel - Under construction. The Timbo Channel - The art of enjoying days off. The Purple Drank Channel - Success through positive thinking. The Slowplay/Alfaromeo Channel - How to spin a bad checkride into a good thing by blaming the instructor then redefining the grading system. $1 premium charge to remove the "DPA Sucks" banner ad. The Carl Spackler Channel - Static and hot air. $1 premium charge to remove the "ALPA Sucks" banner ad. YouBoob - Self explanatory. The Asiana Channel - A hand flying guide. Too soon? :D Carl Fantastic! I would add a sub-category under The Forgot To Bid Channel: video tutorial on chart and graph creation |
denial mode
Does anyone know if it is listed anywhere specifically, when the company can deny an entire category, e.g. M88 B, "set condition min credit" (Admin=0)? Essentially we are all being forced to fly ALV+ and forgo many GS awards. Seems a lot of money taken away (big concession), if the company can arbitrarily withhold this award in PBS.
Same question for Denial mode. I was under the impression that when denial mode was used throughout most of the category, it was due to everyone wanting the same days off, e.g. Christmas, Thanksgiving etc.. Even over the holidays, it didn't touch near as many as this month. |
Carl, that was really funny.

I get that. But I'm kind of like that coffee shop outside of the theater, after everyone flows out of YouJesse or YouBoob, happy, then I have a chance. My next show is "How to Sort the Seniority List on Microsoft Excel". Speaking of Excel, did they take away our deal with MS Office? I still can't find it. |

My channel, YouCharts&Graphs, is not going to be very popular compared to YouJesse or YouBoob.
