We 777 guys usually wear our Dave Clarks over our hats, and we always hand fly every approach, with the autothrottles, autopilots, FD's and instrument illumination lights off, while the PM makes DC 3 engine noises. Only weenies need instruments like Airspeed Indicators and Altimeters.

I recently flew with an ALPA volunteer and it was very similar to a couple of other trips I had with ALPA volunteers. We talked about the TA on one leg, and after being talked over and dismissed I finally just gave up on trying to make my points. In his mind he won the debate, and in my mind it was never a debate; just a discussion on the pros and cons of the TA. Yet, I was left feeling this is how I feel my union feels about those who don't drink the kool aid: shout them down and smother dissent. That being said, I think my experience in the cockpit with a small sampling of volunteers is probably just bad luck. I've spoken with one of my former LEC reps a few times and he was always very helpful and willing to hear what I had to say.

I sat back for some months before renewing my card, but recently sent in a new one. If they are able to get the number of current cards to the amount needed for a vote, I may or may not vote for DPA. But I think it is a positive for the Delta pilot that it come to a vote. Not everyone can volunteer and I've written/spoken to my reps. I've contributed to PAC. I feel ignored, and that the big machine doesn't care much what I say or do. My hope is that bringing this to a head will finally be enough to get my union to wake up and hear the voices who are saying--LISTEN TO US. Sending in a card is not a commitment to voting for DPA.

If we were to do a toss up of the unions, now is the time to do it, not at contract negotiation time. My reservations stand about the DPA, but it will be interesting to see if they get the final oomph to push for a vote. Given the outcome of the "scope improvement opportunity," that could be what kills their chances or pushes them over the top. We'll see.

Not true. On the DPA FAQ page Tim said if there is no other good candidate he will run for president. Even speaks about his families support.


GM is the Government Affairs vice chair. The point on he and TC as well as a few other committee members is that they come off as less than professional in their web board antics. Whether you like it or not they are the face of the DPA to those of us on the fence. Tim needs to get them in line.

Not to beat a dead horse, but why did they vote for it then? As a bottom half of the list guy I gave up a lot to see those pensions frozen. I would have been better off by a mile if we would have done what DALPA did. I worry about the motives they have for DPA support. Since targeting is almost put to bed I am not as worried as I once was. However the selfish motives of some of these individuals still scares me.

Yes it is a leap but not to great of one. I am a line pilot that tries to be involved. I read the web boards ( for better or worse), I read all the ALPA and DPA literature, and I talk to the ALPA reps and DPA supporters. The problem I have is the message I see from the DPA supporters is that everything ALPA has done is wrong and DPA would never allow ( insert item here) to happen, but they don't tell me how. I get a lot of bravado but not a ,pathway to a better future.



Carl if DPA wins they become my union. I will vote like I do in every election I can. I will attend meetings when able and I will stay in contact with my reps.

In the end I wants what's best for Delta pilots.

Yeah, that's him. He's had a lot of Botox since then and looks like a young Robert Redford. I don't know how these international guys do it. And he commutes! I haven't met Carl yet but I'm guessing he's cut from the same jib. Young for his age, lucky in love, and flying the big iron for the outlaw outfit we used to know only as crop dusters and mail runners. Watch out.
