Another factor is training costs. They run about 10 percent of pilot costs at Delta. SW also has training costs but far less. Assuming SW is about 2 percent of their pilot costs then 8 percent of our cost disadvantage over SW is driven by management fleet choices. |

I can only imagine too. How ****ing cheap and low rent Atlanta was. Somehow usair, swa, the fa's at delta, hell even the MSP chief pilots office found a way to do a hot buffett type setup. If it's not in the budget for the CPO, then alpa should use some of their budget. I doubt it would cost more than one evening in the hospitality suite.

One year here at DL, the "Christmas dinner" that me and the Captain shared was a uneated, but somewhat dry FC sandwich in the tinfoil pack the FA handed us at the end of the flight, to eat on our 50 minute turn before we went to Lauderdale for the night. |

I could CARE LESS about "gifts." Such generosity would only make me paranoid. The nuns used to smile and maybe pat me on the head before they beat me senseless.
How about door pay, or bringing up the average daily guarantee? Keep the sandwich, this is business... |
Only reason I brought it up in the first place was form something Timbo said. The pilot group basically gave up it pension and approximately $1.3 billion/year in pilot compensation when the company was struggling. Fast forward 10 years later the company is making $2.6 billion a year and they can't even provide a decent meal for crews on Thanksgiving/Christmas or charge $1 for a cup of coffee in our crew rooms.
Not everything should have to be a hard-nosed negotiated process. The company has had no problem asking the pilot group to go above and beyond normal duties in the interest of improving the overall product, and it would be nice to see small tokens or appreciation from time to time. Just an observation of mild disappointment, that's all. |
