Right now they have a bunch of 757's either underused or in the desert. What airplanes would they order? They will probably need some more 777's in a while but right now they have a lot of unused international capacity. Airframes they got, they just need more high fare customers right now.
I see them finding a replacement for the lower end of the narrow body range. They could do something quick, but my feeling is that we would see new metal in the 2013-2015 time frame. We may be able to extend that, but doing so would put DAL in a position of needed to replace the majority on the narrow body and a good chunk of wide body jets from 2018-2030. It is better to out lay that expenditure over two decades, and not one. |

It's a fairly common theme on this thread, for the junior guys to complain that the senior guys need to be more in touch with the needs of the more junior guys. Attention, junior guys, you are putting your own jobs in jeopardy by "working the system" and flying high lines. There are WAY too many guys getting paid for sitting while others are getting paid for flying extra.
A classic example was just a few posts ago. A junior 88B bragging about getting paid for not doing much. I hope that you realize that you are cutting your own throat. |

Fact is that the 777 is one that I have felt they would order. I see us getting the 777-300 in the next year to two.

Attention senior guy, a junior guy submitting a greenslip will not put my job in jeopardy since it now pays the same as an IA. The company will just IA guys who don't want to work if there are no greenslips submitted. I would agree with you if GS pay was less than IA pay. When PBS builds me a 65 hour line, I'm going to submit a greenslip so I can attempt to make more than my neighbor who works at Wal-Mart. |

I'm thinking not. :(
At management's big meeting yesterday, RA answered a question about airplanes saying they weren't contemplating any new aircraft orders. Their whole focus is to get the customer experience, especially the premium customer experience, standardized and improved. They had a presentation by J.D. Power to all the junior managers on what in their opinion Delta needs to change. Then all the Execs got presented behind that theme. I'd be surprised to see anything major in aircraft orders, other than the desire to either grow or quit the MD-90 fleet. |

You think they are waiting for the C-Series in 2013 to start the DC9/MD88 replacement? If not the C-Series then what?

What I am saying is a lot is in the works, whether it every come to fruition is a different story. If we knew half of what was planned or thought about, it would blow your mind.
I am not saying anything more than what is in the press. Look at their time line. |

With RA there are always big plans in the wings, on the North side he was always telling us who was going under etc. 10 years ago he said UA was in trouble and US Air was going to be gone shortly...its easy to throw out big plans knowing that people have a short history, and when it does not work you just remind everyone that things change and "the airline business is a tough business." Airline employees live and thrive on rumors. Not questioning your intel, but have seen and heard it for a long time. We need to take care of whats going on at our own company and try to make it great.
I was not stating that there are plans/announcements that are coming per say. For that fact, anything immanent. |
