New Call to Action

There's a new Call to Action in this week's Vectors.

Take 30 seconds to ping your congressman and senators about the spread of CBP facilities in the Middle East:

ALPA On the Issues

I could see some sort of option on the 350 or 777XXX (or whatever), with deliveries sometime after 2020... it isn't Mr Anderson's style to buy an unproven airframe which is what the 350 is. Yeah EADS testing is going well... so they say... but until it is in revenue service, it will have bugs. Just an opinion. The 747s aren't going away anytime real soon, as they are reconfiguring the seating... again. (upper deck getting all EC seating, and a total of 450 seats.) However, if neither of those are the choice, it is a company wide haircut. It really doesn't matter for you and I anyway, we'll both be long gone before the bulk of any order shows up.

And for your next post, I was coming back from AMS. I was just doing a couple of line checks.

Oh????? and pray tell why wouldn't we? You replace a 747 with 2 or 3 767s or 330s, and you can increase frequency. Yup... that is still what a lot of people want. We are starting enough service to LHR that you can practically walk on the backs of the airplanes because that's what the business traveler wants... I know some of ya'll are in love with the 747, but right now it is killing UAL. If your argument is sound, then why aren't 380s filling the skies right now? Bigger is not better in all cases. It has it's market, no doubt, but it is not the be all end all.....

My scanner doesn't like the size of the paper used….cuts off some of the page….missing the ability to see the Sierra Nevada Torpedo….and that IS the SHOCKER three finger salute….

It would be interesting if someone could break down a current 747-400 route vs having a 777-300 do the same route. You could figure out the fuel, cargo and passenger comparison.

I think airlines loved their 744s, they ran them hard and they're not getting younger. Unless we get some now, your choice seems to be a 777-300, A380 or 748. Just by looking at the Boeing and Airbus order books it seems like airlines opted for the 773 and 380 (and obviously none of those were UAL/DAL/AMR).

My guess, 773s a long time from now and 330s.

But I do have another question to ponder. The 7ERs are being touted as "old" in some print, with an average age of 18 years. Those airplanes have few cycles on them which is what I thought was the killer of airplanes. I was on a 717 JS last night (nice airplane btw) and the airworthiness cert was something like 2002. Gawd knows how long the MadDogs have been around, yet there is no talk of those being "old"... Anybody help me out on this?

Less pilots on the seniority list. Done

No big deal. WE are still gonna have to replace 7500 guys in the next 15 years. Yours is an extremely minor concern.

It absolutely is the cycles. And I think given the routes we fly the ER's, they do have plenty of life left in them. There is no rush to replace them, which is why the 330 is a bridge order to more airplanes coming later in the decade. The GulfAir 67's and the domestic 300's will be the first to go...
