16 hour long call would really benefit guys that are stuck commuting to reserve.
Better yet, let's make it 18 (or more) hours. That way a pilot can check his sched before he goes to bed, turn off his phone, and then check again 8 hours later after he gets up.

I think you're on the right track though. The long call leash is going to have to be lengthened.

80 or FTB.

It would be great to see a comeback of the 80knots clamp show.

Thanks RK. That's what I was afraid of. Looks like Virgin out of JFK would be my best backup. Oh wait, we have an agreement with them.

Once you upgrade...another 5 minutes of two-engine taxi or 10 minutes of early APU start on every flight for the remainder of your career should put a dent in their $4000.

You might not have the money...but neither will they.

But soon, I'm sure they'll use Big Data to beat us down. Another year or two--in fact, probably just in time for the next Section 6--and captains will be getting pinged by the CP: "we see your APU burn time is 20% higher than average for this temperature on this aircraft at this airport. Why don't you take a week off to think about it?"

...and ALPA will threaten to think about possibly considering a weakly worded letter to explore the possibility of a grievance.

As the Company has always used even a single X-day to count as a pilot's 24 in 7 rest requirement, I'm not sure I see the issue in giving him notice ahead of time that his time off will now end at 0600 rather than midnight the night before to give him 30 hours. He gets extra time off, and it counts as his rest.

What am I missing?

Therefore, the first on-call day becomes the last (albeit partial) non-fly day and would therefore fall under 23 S 1. d. 2, thus requiring a pilot to check his schedule within 2 hours after the end of such non-fly day, i.e. check schedule by 0800. What say you?
If we ever get back to the last non-fly-day schedule check, I would agree with you. Right now, the Company has had to relieve us of this obligation in order to ensure that our rest on that last non-fly-day is not broken. As I understand it, the pilot goes on call at 0600 and will be assigned flying or short call beginning no earlier than 1800 -- 12 hours later.

I've refunded several "Fly confirmed for less" tickets. The lowest fare classes aren't refundable (just like paying pax can't get refunded on those classes) but Y and similar classes are fully refundable. Never had an issue.

What class of fare did you purchase and what were the rules for that class? If in fact you purchased a refundable ticket, you should take it up through your CPO. $4K shouldn't just be written off....

BTW, even if not refundable they should be changeable (additional fee).

The fact that I'd rather have the entire 30-hour break on my on-call days. And not on a layover either.
