Awesome. What's with all those United jets trying to pile up at 1N?

Just want to say thanks to L&G lurker and my 330 classmate who sat seat support for me yesterday, you know who you are bro! I'm beat up, bruised and severely embarrassed. But, I'll freely admit it could have been worse.....beers on me next time our paths cross!!

  • First flew March 2004
  • Seats 350 pax
  • Good cargo capacity
  • Great for hot and high SA/LA destinations
  • Airbus has seven 340-600 available right now
  • 4 for the price of 2 engine MX from Rolls
  • Virgin is parking their remaining 340-600s
  • Used prices dropping to 20-30M
  • Average price for a new 777-300 approx. $300M
  • Fuel burn only 12% more than 777-300, but 24% less than 747-400
Cheers
George

Dots?? I don't see how 7 340's would replace our 747 fleet...would they be another short term stop gap?

Evidently Virgin has 19 of them. Or in other words, we have 49 percent of 19 of them already...

Good sleuthing George!

LOL,
Actually, Virgin has been handing them back to Airbus.

IDK if the VS 340-600s are subject to the guaranteed resale value clause Airbus offered to some carriers.

That would be the ultimate financial gambit with Airbus paying VS a penalty for the loss of value that is greater than the actual purchase price for aircraft on the used market...

That leverage would enable Anderson to play this from the Virgin and Delta side benefiting both airlines. Generating cash for Virgin while getting rid of an unwanted type and providing nearly-free wide bodies for Delta.

Hmmm, there's this "fleeting opportunity" I see coming.
(no pun intended)

Cheers
George

Wow. That would be quite a coup.

Doubt we'd ever buy another 4-holer.

... so if it's way cheaper than a 777, burns less gas, and carries more, it's not making money because........????

I'm not sure why, but the A340 apparently sucks, as much as the A330 is fabulous. Other than Virgin and Lufthansa, I have never seen one in person. The order books aren't exactly clogged with a backlog of A340s on order.
