  • First flew March 2004
  • Seats 350 pax
  • Good cargo capacity
  • Great for hot and high SA/LA destinations
  • Airbus has seven 340-600 available right now
  • 4 for the price of 2 engine MX from Rolls
  • Virgin is parking their remaining 340-600s
  • Used prices dropping to 20-30M
  • Average price for a new 777-300 approx. $300M
  • Fuel burn only 12% more than 777-300, but 24% less than 747-400
Cheers
George

You just might have won first prize for the best rumor of the year!:)

Anyone else having issues with travelnet not accepting any airport codes?

It's a Firefox issue. Something to do with cache. (Something I don't have enough of)

Restarting FF normally fixes it or I just switch to Chrome.

I use Chrome... funky. It only lasted around 10 minutes.

"Taking fuel price at 65 cents per US Gallon and..."
Laughable, but then again the article was written 13yrs ago!

True, but we needed pilots yesterday too. As much as I'd like to see something like this, I think Delta is already behind the power curve on hiring/training. Adding those kind of positions at the top of the food chain would exacerbate the problem.

Still, it's like that time in between buying a lottery ticket and when they announce the numbers. I can fantasize about the future.

Is it poor APC etiquette to quote yourself? Just to add fuel to a "bridge" wide body aircraft order rumor...

From a recent memo:

The 747/777/330 Flight Training departments anticipate some limited hiring of Seniority List Instructors in 2014.

The used 744s and A346s has been discussed before given the 777-300 backlog, is that backlog really an issue? If so, makes sense to acquire 346s.

And if it was just a fleet of 7, is that so bad if it has commonality with the A330 or is it still too small of a sub fleet?

It's only bad if you argue with yourself.

Reference comments made in a certain published notes about bridge aircraft. Common type with 330, very short differences course for current 330 pilots if flown as common category, TVM of a cheap acquisition for short term (<10 yrs) makes up for a lot of other factors, and excellent metrics for long haul capacity. 840K MTOW, 375 dual class, 7900nm range for damn near free? That buys a lot of gas and creates a lot of revenue and the aircraft are still very comfy and would sync with other Airbus WB customer premium expectations easily. Recall RA is very fond of used proven airframes at bargain prices. We need added long haul capacity yesterday.

What would your opinion be of biting off on a common category with the 330 to streamline the acquisition and training costs to quickly get close to 20 additional WB's in the fleet and the benefit to the pilot group?

If true we could fly these birds just about anywhere from SEA , LAX or JFK!

There are more than just 7 available.

Oh I'm sure there are or would be more than 7 available if one expresses interest in buying them off OALs hands. This table though showed 7, maybe that's where that rumor originates?
