Why? Maybe because of a fence that expires.

From a recent memo:

The 747/777/330 Flight Training departments anticipate some limited hiring of Seniority List Instructors in 2014.[/QUOTE]

And if it was just a fleet of 7, is that so bad if it has commonality with the A330 or is it still too small of a sub fleet?

Good point if it's the same category. It's only a few aircraft less than the 11 A330-200s. The total big bus fleet would be (assuming more A340s were not available.)

A330-300 31 (including 10 ordered)
A330-200 11
A340-600 07

Total 49

The fence dropping won't cause any more movement than there is now. The same number of openings will be filled by the same number of pilots, resulting in the same amount of training, regardless of lineage.

Now if DAL was to move aircraft AFTER the fence comes down, you're right. Which is the obvious reason why they will not do that. If they wanted the 747 in ATL, it would be much cheaper and easier to do it before the fence falls.

This article just does not disappoint.

The 346 sure is easy on the eyes. Make it pay the same as the 777 and 744, and I'm all for it.

Does it have the cargo capacity needed, though?

Band the A330/340 with the 777 and 744 and you have my attention.

You have as many "regular" personal drop (PD) days as you want as long as there is reserve coverage. Now, the "authorized" personal drop (APD) is once an employment year and can be up to 4 days in a row.

I was thinking more that instructors would be leaving to get on the equipment while they can. They can elect to go where ever their seniority holds when leaving the training department, but after the fence falls they might not be senior enough to jump on.

Sounds like a large % might leave this summer which might be part of the reason to hire instructors now.
