We took an hour plus delay, which resulted in an hour delay all day, causing a head of State from Santo Domingo to mis connect over 4 hoagies earlier this year (and the issue may have been the short carts, things in the back carts get lost).

If I would have had any idea, I'd have bought the "crew meals" and expensed them, but rather than bringing the food they audited the carts, then brought the food. The "audit" took 45 minutes past departure and the food another 30. That's no way to run an airline.

We need a operational red coat who can fuel an airplane, send in a bag count, and throw sandwiches to hungry flight attendants. ... and I kinda don't blame them. While you and I might pack nutrition bars for the inevitable re-route + tight turn, they figure they are doing a 12 hour day with a turn and food. Gotta eat something.

FYI everyone. Mtc delay in MSP after gate return. FAs had gotten on the jet originally on a short turn with no food. Mtc says one hour for repair and so I went out for a quick lunch thing. Offered to get some for FAs but they rather have crew meals. Called catering, they said no prob see you in 45 mins.

After cracking open the gen, Mtc doesn't have parts. Another base does so they are going to send them to our destination and they slap a Cat A MEL on us. Time to button up but FAs meals not there. They state it is in their contract (remember North FAs had one) and they are waiting for their meals.

I offer to buy everyone a lunch of their choice to move the circus down the road so I put down $50, get them and the receipt of course, and off we go cause we have Asia connecting pax and it's now really tight for them.

Put in for reimbursement, easy.

Weeks later, I check time card, not so fast. $ not there. I call the CPSC and explain the situation and try to find out if I entered something wrong, etc.

Then, I get scolded. And rather sternly I might add:rolleyes:

I was told never to do that again and that Delta will not pay for an expense like that. They will this one time only and that's it. I asked again about getting the flight out vs waiting another 30 mins for their crew meals that they were contractually allowed.

Again, I was told no and not to concern myself with their contract.

I reiterated about the extended delay to wait for them and the cause and effect it would have on our international connects and again I was told I was wrong.

Again FYI.

Save a dime and lose a dollar. Very managerial decision.

Talk about not empowering employees to make decisions.

Stories like this make me think we (DAL) as not quite as good as most think we are. I would think if RA heard about this he would applaud it, but obviously this attitude is not making it down to middle management.

I would hope that this individuals attitude would be an anomaly and not the norm and that eventually DAL will "get-it" and empower front line employees a little bit more.

As long as you make a gatehouse PA about it and pass out some biz cards to the Platinum elites, it's all good.

From what I hear, we are returning to a "break in the checklist," so that we can delay -- to the absolute last possible microsecond .....

...wait for it ....

I'd have to find those cards. They must be somewhere floating around in the bottom of my backpack!

Now that we use brake release to start the clock I didn't think anyone much cared. To me "anticipation of aircraft movement" means turning the beacon on as I call so the ramp tower can more easily identify who's calling (since we have a lot of XXa, XXb, gates where two airplanes are crammed into a spot where one should go).
