So... My son nonreved home from college a couple of days ago. Since he was coming home for the summer, he needed to check 3 bags. When he checked in at the kiosk, the first 2 bags were free and it charged him $125 for the 3rd bag (none of the bags were oversized/weight). Does that sound right? $125??

Not sure about the $125, but the FDX discount for shipping bags via 2 day air is a pretty good alternative and normally costs about $30 or $40 for a large duffel bag. Not sure it would have helped in the above situation but something to consider for the future. Scoop |

I respectfully disagree. If I am traveling with my party, they should be entitled to my seniority for boarding. The KEY is you have to be WITH them and you are both listed as an S3. (no S2.... only S3)
I've been "hauling the mail" here since 1978 and because of that my 18 year old daughter going to a gossip fest will bump you everytime. |

Please allow me to counter-disagree. Your family deserves to have your seniority, but your friends, neighbors, distant relatives, and friend-adjacent acquaintances don't deserve to be above my family.
Awesome. And my daughter will bump your S4 every time, as she should. |

My fellow Delta pilots ... Delta wants cheap. When the market is unable to provide qualified pilots for the worst deal in the profession, the cheap response is to lower the standard.
I am not sure how we "permit" this while simultaneously trying to justify improvements to our pay and working conditions. Best if we do not "permit" this to continue. I pledge to never vote yes to a contract which fails to further restrict, sunset, and lower the amount of Delta flying we permit to be done by those other than Delta pilots. These pilot social engineering experiments should go to hell and burn there. |

This is the main reason I've argued that ALPA should work towards licensing and testing of pilots in the U.S., much like the AMA does with doctors. Or the ABA with lawyers, either one. Have the FAA be in charge of airports and airways. |

I agree with you, however Delta is free to hire whomever and however they like, test or no test. If they deem it in their best interest to lower the standards and live with the consequences, there is little we can do to stop them.

Have the FAA be in charge of airports and airways. There are state medical boards that do accreditation. I don't want the Air Line Pilot's Association that I'm a member of to be responsible for hiring pilots... When an aircraft accident occurs the Association would then be another target for the lawyers looking to sue everyone who could be responsible. I say leave the licensing to the gov't and the hiring to the Company. I see what you're saying (and like the idea) about the ability to control entry into the market and how that would promote higher wages and like it, but it ain't gonna happen that way. |
