On augmented flights, the FARs require the pilot doing the landing has to have 2 hours of rest in the second half of the FDP. In a transcon turn there is no way for the pilot doing the first landing to comply with this requirement. Am I missing something?

"No certificate holder may assign and no flightcrew member may accept an assignment under this section unless during the flight duty period:
(1) Two consecutive hours in the second half of the flight duty period are available for in-flight rest for the pilot flying the aircraft during landing."

The FARs seemed to not be geared for multi-leg augmented flights, even though up to 3 segments (and therefore, landings) are allowed.

This NAI thing is probably going to happen. The majority of our country thinks it will bring lower prices. Sadly we are in the minority.

I guess that's no surprise. What are you hearing?

I haven't heard anything. There was a huge editorial in the Usa Today welcoming them. I also have asked some friends to do the call to action. I have had some tell me no because they think it's a good thing. People really dislike paying for airline tickets. They think flying should be a right.

I'm have a partial payback day that ends around 6 tomorrow am. What's the earliest I can be assigned a trip? I'd guess its 1800, but who knows these days?

According to the infamous SD memo, I'd also guess it's 1800.

That's exactly why every pilot should contribute to ALPA PAC and do the call to action. Public support stops when it costs them one penny more for anything. One word: WalMart. We stand alone.

I think what you are missing is that rest is not required for the other two guys.

If you read the FAR, they are two different animals. A 'sleep opportunity' applies to normal layovers. A 'mid duty rest opportunity' is treated differently.

I'm not finding that. Can you tell me what section you're looking at?

I can think of three ways that pilots may have been hurt:

1) The long call reserve issue due to acknowledgement
2) Less productive trips due to more 30-hour layovers
3) More reroutes due to hard flight and duty time limits

Whether we were hurt as much as the Company, I have no idea.

I'm curious about that too.
That sentence in Donatelli's letter could mean pretty much anything.
