It's not a question of being jaded or not Alan. It's what Moak said. No spin, just his quote. He's had ample time to clarify, and he's not done so.

To be exact, the $$$ were not quoted as to what they were related to. I do agree that it's past time for classification.

Thus the predictable responses from alfaromeo, slowplay, shiznit etal. Even if they were inclined to tell the truth, they simply can't.

Wow. Way to miss the point entirely there Mr. T. I never said a word about executive compensation. Your reading comprehension is what sucks here. I said that our executives negotiate their compensation package, as do we. I asked, when they do, do they factor in the feelings of their non-executive "coworkers" when they make their "demands"? Of course they don't. But, according to you, we should be very concerned about how we are viewed by our non-pilot co-workers when we are seeking contract gains.

There are a LOT of things that we should consider/factor in to the crafting of our opener next spring. How it will affect the "reputation" we have with our non-pilot co-workers, OR how "arrogant" they will view our position should NOT be one of them!!!

So, why not take a break?? Geez, you're on here every fricking day, pretty much all day. Turn of the computer and re-read Flying the Line. See if you can find the part about our predecessors worrying about offending their non-pilot coworkers in their contract negotiations. Report back.....after a healthy break.

I've seen first hand how management takes a dim view of anyone who is critical of ALPA. Openly supporting DPA is obviously critical of ALPA. I simply don't think that's something that would be smart for a probationary pilot to do at this company. I'm not surprised that some here would try to spin it in an effort to play "gotcha."
Oh I think you're giving solid advice. It's still ironic though in my opinion.

I love that one. First of all, he doesn't represent "crew members." He represents PILOTS.

Who the hell else would he be advocating for, if not for pilots? Compensation is important. Wow. No ****, sherlock.

Why would he need to say that, unless there was another constituency he was trying to please that didn't include pilots?

What I find ironic is that the company is so supportive and protective of a union (ALPA) when they are so anti-union with the other employees. I guess they've got a pretty good deal going with a solid partner to help them keep their pilot costs low and the pilot group relatively happy at the same time.

The reader (me, in this case) was left to draw his own conclusions as to the likelihood of the estimate and the desirability of placing this amount of my compensation at risk. Hopefully, the survey will give me an opportunity to express my views on that subject. If not, I will let my rep know how I feel on the subject.

Agreed. Keep in mind that the document we've been discussing is the Contract History, which showed the history (duh) of our two airline pilot contracts over the past 20 years or so. I recently received the Contract Comparison (I assume we all did) that provides the comparison with our peers.
Alan,

Several pages pack (whew, it's been busy here) I asked you about your thoughts on combining the JV non-compliance into Contract 2015.

You stated they should be separate issues and resolved independently. (Please correct me if I'm wrong about your answer).

We agree on that issue.

My fear is that these items will NOT be resolved as independent issues and the JV non-compliance will be folded into C2015 and dismissed.

I have informed my MEC reps this would be unacceptable. I encourage others to do the same.

Follow up question,

I quoted you above about profit sharing. Your sentence (in bold) concerns me. You claim profit sharing is a "risk" in compensation. Are you encouraging reducing profit sharing in order to increase pay rates when we negotiate Contract 2015?

Just so it's clear, my question is:

Do you support a reduction in company profit sharing in order to gain an hourly pay rate increase when we negotiate Contract 2015?

Thanks for your insights and I'm curious of your thoughts.
