Dude, you're playing with fire doing stuff like that. It's very dangerous. Don't you know you can catch some nasty stuff by eating Taco Bell?

Where ever you have your IRS refund mailed. That state will sniff you out. Get a mailbox in FL. TX. TN. NV. You will escape...

That would be fine with me...I just want to deduct the cost of my hotel when I come in the night before, as well as during initial training. If my Tax Home is ATL, I don't think I can do that.

Usually where you live, or in Florida.

It seems if there is any justification folks claim Florida to avoid State income tax, and then there is TSquare has also figured out how to crack that nut.

So I knew of a corporate pilot who told the state of Florida that the airplane was based in Georgia, so the boss isn't going to pay FL taxes even though the LLC was FL based.

Then he told Georgia, the LLC is FL based so they won't pay taxes in Georgia.

He didn't run this by the boss, thought he was doing him a favor. The boss hired a company to rectify the situation and pay the taxes to Georgia where the airplane was based. The boss knew better.

I'm not an expert and tend to be moderately conservative with tax stuff, but you should be very careful with deducting commuting expenses. Consult a professional. And not the kind you will find outside Taco Bell in downtown Atlanta.

If the professionals outside a Taco Bell in downtown Atlanta are not good for tax advice, what are they good for?

Everyone knows you can't deduct commuting expenses because commuting is a "choice"

Thanks for the tips, guys, and I'll be sure to get some tax advice while I'm there. :)

They can get you a "price" on a clean, gently used DC-9 in Eastman Ga.

When you see the first tax advice professional outside of Taco Bell ask them what the hourly rate is and just explain you need to know because you don't want to get screwed over.

May wanna ask some Minnesota boys about claiming to live somewhere vs where they really lived:eek::D
Don't know if they got jail time (no memory anymore) but I think the ones in Hennipan County got tagged with a felony.

I've always been talked out of claiming commuter hotels. I was told its a grey area. It wouldn't flag an audit but I would probably lose it in an audit if I got tagged for something else. The CPA who told me that did lots of pilots when I lived in Dallas.
