In my honest opinion, HA and AK are Second Tier Airlines. You can never make me believe or convince me that their pilots come ahead of us. NEVER. Im not being arrogant. This is the truth. HA is a debt ridden, heavily leveraged and subsidized airline (ALoha, Go etc.) while AK has grown and flourished because of our neglect on competition and the subsidies of the state of ALaska (Both NWA and DL handed over Alaska the routes).
AK and HA are second tier. My saying this is not out of arrogance, but of truth. If you take a historical snapshot, you will see that many of their pilots had their apps in at NWA or DL. I will give you two or three names at least that will verify this. If we are buying, they should be stapled. Greedy on my part. However, in reality, it is for my brothers. Im set, dont need the $$ or seniority. Dont sell yourself short. You work for a TOP TIER AIRLINE. Respectfully always, TEN Oh when the shoe is on the other foot.... |

LOL! Substitute ATN for HA & AK, then replace DL & NWA with SWA and you have perfectly stated the argument many SWA pilots put forth here about our SLI. But it sure didn't wash with the Delta peanut gallery!

Im sorry Smokey. I never applied to work for SWA. In fact, in the mid 90s, SWA was never even in my sight. In my opinion, being from the peanut gallery, SWA and ATN are on the same level. Again, what I say may make you feel upset, but SWA is in the same tier with ATN. So your assumption above is not correct. In fact, ATN had international, SWA didnt. By the way, I would rather hang my hat at the peanut gallery than the "hot dog on the stick" factory.:D

Well I applied and interviewed with SWA in '97 but they didn't hire me and I wound up at NWA in '98, now Delta. My buds who did get hired at SWA around that time frame upgraded to capt in about 7-8 years. At 16+ years I'm just now getting to where I could bid very junior capt. They've made many 100's of thousands more $$ at SWA than I've been able to at NWA/Delta. Same for buds who got hired at FredEx around that time. Just another data point to think about.

Um, Ok? In that case then, we need to be stapled behind SWA! I have it all wrong!:) My Bad, Im sorry.
TEN Ten, I think he is just saying that there are many ways to look at this career. Some guys dream of flying WB long haul international. Others want to fly turns and be home every night while others prefer North and South flying staying in one time zone. Some bid for $$$$, some bid for QOL. While some things are valued by all - more $$$, more vacation etc, there is no one "ideal" airline job for all. Scoop |
