This. Funny how the "sleeper" films can nail down something so accurately.

Flattery is the greatest form of imitation, think about it.

Seat locks

We all know that Delta has been tightening up our contract in regard to seat locks. I thought this was pretty standard for the industry but I was talking with a UCAL pilot, former Continental, who said UCAL has no seat locks as long as you bidding up.

Is this correct? No seat locks at all as long as you are bidding into something that pays more - even FO to FO bids, as long as you are bidding into higher pay. No seat locks.

I find this hard to believe but if true we better not give an inch on seat locks and probably need to actually improve in our contract in this regard.

US is similar. It's 1 year for a move-up, 18 months for lateral, and 2 years for downbid, IIRC.

We had a 3 year freeze. It's gone down to two. UAL has their equipment banded into 4 categories. If we did the same I am sure the company will give us the same freeze policy. I am not sure if you are in the bottom half of the list you will like that.

And if we work for $10/hr we can have an extra week of vacation too, right?

The champion of cost-neutrality strikes again. Whose side are you on?

Why are you talking about giving anything up? Banding is a concession. End of discussion.

Negotiations is about give and take. I'm fine with pay banding as long as part of the cost savings in returned the pilots.

When did Delta have a 3 years freeze? Since 96 it was one year until changed to 2...

I am not talking about wanting pay banding. I am pointing out what seems lost on some here. No part of the contract operates in a vacuum. If you have only two pay bands like US had or 4 like UAL then the length of freezes becomes almost irrelevant. I would think most would understand that but I guess I was wrong.
