I can't imagine any new hire on entry-level equipment will be forced to work more than one Christmas in this hiring environment--which is fantastic.

Jokes on you. It's like Christmas every day on the ER so it will be like double Christmas when I'm working on regular Christmas.

On a totally unrelated note, does anyone want to pick up a double Christmas trip next month?

forgot to bid 11-16-2014 12:03 PM

I was looking at the awards and noticed someone at 50% working Christmas and then some. I was curious if they bid that because it'd been an easy time to get off. I go and look at the reasons report and they ftb.

Happens, but that stinks.

The rest rules needed reform, ALPA dropped the ball on that one, but I get what you're saying.

Denny,

As you know, I'm also approaching the 400k mark this year... If you've got some ideas about holding on to the money, I'd love a PM as well.

No, I'm absolutely clueless about what to do tax wise. I remember when we got the note and claim money. I talked to an accountant and he said essentially, to bad so sad, there is not much you can do to avoid taxes this year.

I was curious about something else and Scambo answered my question.

Too much quip pro quo stuff in 117, IMO. Well, we gave the pilots 10 hours behind the door, so how about 9 hours flight time during the day….and no, the senior guys don't love that!

I've had a farm for a number of years now. It is generally good for 70k right off the top without using the section 179 expense. Section 179 maxes out at an annual ~$180k/yr. in itself. I don't live there any more, but keep it for the tax benefit. The schedule f (farm) is powerful. It gets you depreciation, section 179, related fuel, oil, tools etc.

It takes about a year to be recognized by your state as a farm once you get the ball rolling. There is a minimum acreage size and a minimum acreage for the farmed product.

Front page write downs on the 1040 is how you limit your tax liability.

The acreage could be swampland at $500/acre, but gives you the same tax benefit as a vineyard in Napa.

The above is not investment or tax advice. Dyodd

Must be nice. This is the first Christmas off I've gotten at Delta as a 2001 hire, including the years I was furloughed.

Of course, I also got Thanksgiving and New Years off altogether for the first time too. Finally got some seniority! Must be time to upgrade and give it up.
