Either way though things should balance out soon as the last of the CPZ flows occur in the coming year and a half or so. Mesaba flows are done. EtD is done (lol) and hiring in 2016 and beyond shows no sign of tapering.

Why has human progress ground to a halt? ? Michael Hanlon ? Aeon Examines why the rapid progress of 1945 to 1971 does not seem to happen today. Or, as Buzz Aldrin said, "you promised missions to Mars, I got Facebook instead." http://youtu.be/wptn5RE2I-k that was awesome, the guy totally deserved it. |

No, the reason we're going no where is because there is no where to go that's worth the effort and expense.
Look, I dig exploration and space tech for its own sake, but it takes BIG bucks. Until it takes not so big bucks, or there is a promise of a huge payday for someone, robots will be getting all the glory. It took the promise of gold and riches to lure explorers to get into leaky boats, for months at a time. 16th century Europe make not have been as groovy as it is now, but it sure beat getting scurvy, eating crap food, drinking foul water, enduring brutal treatment, only to wind up sunk and forgotten on the far side of the world. So why did they do it? Money. Nu |

36 717's 24 739's 4 .333's being delivered, 4 744's parked offset the 333's. 60 mainline aircraft deliveries.. 6 crews per bird would be 12 x 60 = 720 pilots needed. 720 + 300 = 920 I bet we end up closer to the 966-1000 in 2015 again when it's all said and done, but there's only "authorization" for 125/mo through march. Total WAG napkin math on this.... I'm probably way wrong. |

Nu I agree with the substance of your post, but as miraculous as my cell phone is, it really does not do a whole lot more than my 2001 Palm Treo (it does it a lot better though). The writer took a swerve in a direction I think needs to be considered ... income inequality. Scientific conservatism is one result of 1% owning 50% of the World's wealth. Gloopy makes their case well. No pay off; lets stay home. I'm getting experienced (old) in business & music and if anything, I've observed if you get really smart people together focused on anything, something will come of the collaboration and it is likely to have been unanticipated by any one of the collaborators individually. These sort of programs, often at public expense, provide benefits which are difficult to quantify on the front end. Apollo brought us everything from microprocessors and velcro to fax machines. American business, engineering and manufacturing benefitted from the subsidies. My view is, you spend billions letting poor people remain unproductive and you get Ferguson's riots. Today our society has less social mobility than did medieval England. Spend a fortune on exploration and you get engineers. Chris Rock is morphing from a comedian to something of an armchair economist. I too am concerned about the "combustible resentment of the underclass." As we see protests that make no sense what so ever to us the only explanation that seems to make sense is that the protesters have no better use for their time. |

So, if SEA opened as a 737 base, does a new category waive seat locks?
And is a new category one of those things that can get you a paid move?

I don't think a seat lock applies to a new category such as SEA 737, however I don't think you would get a free move out of it if you bid it voluntarily.
If you were under a category freeze, you could still bid SEA 73N when it is established as a new category. You would still incur a 2 year category freeze beginning on the date of the award for the AE to SEA 73N. A category is only considered to be "new or reestablished" for the first 60 days beginning with the first day a pilot could convert into the category. Section 22 A.7. An award to a new CATEGORY does not qualify for relocation benefits. That would require an award to a new or reestablished BASE (PDX, MEM, DFW, MCO, etc). Section 6 A.3. |

Blow countless billions on a pet project to Mars or else its essentially racist, and we wouldn't even have velcro, ever, or really anything else invented during that time, were it not for the lunar missions beause only massive government spending drives innovation. Its a miracle we were able to achieve anything compared to the Soviets, what with all their forced government spending. Most if not all of the innovation from Apollo came from the private sector and would have happened anyway. Framing the debate in the manner you are attempting to is extremely dangerous from an intellectual perspective. As for the poor and downtrodden being forced to "remain unproductive" how about we free up the trillions that are going to Wall St and banker bailouts and getting sucked out of the pockets of families and businesses with one of, if not the, highest corporate tax rates in the world (that the facist companies in bed with the government don't even pay in the first place) and get the government out of it and unleash the wealth generating potential our country has if only it were allowed to be free. Oh right, that would be racist, so let's blow unlimited money on government programs like a manned Mars mission and then give credit to that for everything that's ever invented. |
AE conversion dates are posted - congrats to everyone who got their jet/location of choice!
