I'm trying to log into iCrew. The Company has declared an IROPS event. I can't log in until I tell them the closest airport and what I need. I was just checking my next rotation two days from now. I don't need anything. I'm hearing black helicopters.

It's called roll call and is their attempt to reduce call volume to the OCC and prioritize who they need to get back to quickly in an IROP.

The helicopters might be for a different reason though. Have you cleared your browser history lately?:D

thanks for the replies, good info!

to make it a bit more specific, we have friends in the temecula area so thats one area on our list, is that too far of a commute to LAX to be feasible?

also, is Oceanside/Carlsbad area feasibly drivable? I kinda had it in my mind that it was a bit too long of a drive up to LAX. maybe I just need to shift my ideas about committing from UT norms to CA standards!

And I never even really considered santa barbara county! You using a helo to get to work?!!!

thanks again to all

Temecula is a good area... And a great perk is all the wine tasting in your back yard! ;). I love Carlsbad and really any area along the ocean is awesome. Carlsbad with no traffic would be hour and a half.. With traffic that will be longer. You could fly to LAX from Palomar airport too. Maybe on the days you really don't feel like driving.. It is definitely doable from either city.. Living in a beach community it definitely a big perk! Living in paradise!! :)

Yep,

Both Carlsbad and Temecula are easily drivable and allow you to sit short-call at home. 99% of LAX shortcall call-outs are for the next day or possible a morning call for a red-eye that night. Now you always have to be ready for a short notice call-out, but with no snow, thunderstorms, ice, and very rarely IMC - it is normally not as hectic as NYC or ATL.

A bonus on the 7ER is SNA trips which are great for the SD or Orange county guys but will not help you out in Temecula. The 91 (or State hwy 91 in non-SOCAL lingo) is usually a disaster going/coming from Temecula but plenty of guys make it work.

Good luck. :) PM me if you need a Realtor recommendation.

Wow, amazing how some things never leave your mind after 20+ years. I always did 2 x SELECT and then start, but in looking online, the second SELECT was apparently not needed. Who knew all these years. Ha. Great post!

Surely, you meant 13 months from now, right?

Do our senior, errrrr mature FAs know how ISIS members like kittens (allegedly)? Maybe we can effect a cost-free incentive plan to cull the senior ranks by making the ISIS love of kittens more widely known. Oh, and they crave Nutella and favor emojis as well, so they've got to be nice guys.

If you are talking southern California, I like Laguna Beach in Orange County and La Jolla in San Diego County. Laguna is very commutable, La Jolla is a stretch. SoCal real estate prices swing pretty dramatically, but they are always expensive. I'd wait for the next downturn (couple of years?) and buy the cheapest shack I could find in the most prime location I could afford. I think you won't lose in the long run if you can walk to the beach. Camp out in it until you can afford a remodel.

+717! Laguna is great!
