Any of you guys airfare gurus? We want to forgo the nonrev stress and buy tickets from DTW to S. Florida for the kids winter break in mid Feb. I've been checking fares for awhile now, and our fares are in the $700-800 range for anywhere in FL! Loads are pretty wide open too. The same routes in January are around $300, so I'm hoping that as it gets closer, maybe next month the prices will come down? I can't see how we can fill a plane to a leisure market such as FLL charging $800 for a ticket.

There was website that would predict if they were going up/down. I can't remember it or find it though. Kayak has some sort of predictor on their site too if you search for a fare - it's on the top left.

Google Travel is pretty good for airfares, basic and quick. My friend said it was a fair bit cheaper there than others when he bought tickets a few days ago for Feb travel.

Hi All,

First time trip to Paris with family (2 teens)...any ideas of places to stay or itineraries for 3 days?

Also, curious if it is oversold in the back and wide open in front...will they end up putting those people up front?

Do the crew hotels offer employee rates still? If so, how do you get it? email or call?

Thanks

Get Rick Steves Paris book. Has hotels and priorities on things to do. Sometimes the Novotel offers a pretty good employee rate, you'll need to call each of the 3 layover hotels directly to ask. #s should be on Mycrewguide.com They will likely tell you 4 can't be in one room.
The night before you fly home, think about staying out at CDG. Go thru Delta Perks (Employee Connection), can usually get a room for around 50-60€ and don't have to sweat getting out there the morning of your flight.

Beware of oversold coach and HKs showing up from nowhere at the last minute. Happens more at a hub. CVG can be a good option.

Fat Tire bike tours. Fun and gives you a good overview. And 50% off for airline folk

HA, Southwest is probably more expensive, and all sold out. SMH

Yeah, Southwest is just as expensive.

Second post in as many pages mentioning the "oversold coach." Is the implication that empty business seats will stay empty (i.e., non-revs not upgraded)?

I haven't tried to non-rev internationally yet, just domestic--and, it's not common, but if there's an empty domestic 1st class seat after all revenue upgrades, it's offered up to the non-revs. Is this different for international?

It used to be that coach could be oversold internationally and business be wide open and you knew you would get on the airplane. Certain cities started upgrading the highest level tickets to the empty business class seats. CDG and AMS come to mind.

Ah! So, if there's an open seat on the airplane (even if in business), the non-rev will get on? (But, if coach is oversold, the extra pax will fill up any available business seats ahead of the non-revs?)

If I've got that correct, then it's more or less just like domestic? Much as I might wish for the "guaranteed" seat with business wide open, it's kind of hard to complain about revenue pax boarding before non-revs....
