So what do you guys think about a West coast 717 base? If it is to support a LAX-SFO-SEA type of shuttle then LAX or SEA would seem logical.

If this is the case I would think LAX would get it because it is already providing the Gates for the Compass flights that do this now.

The dispatch from the Kremlin (Crew resources update) also mentioned SLC. This would seem to be a long-shot but for some reason the company seems hesitant to open domiciles in LAX. For example LAX will have three 777 departures this summer with no domicile - DTW has a 777 domicile with zero departures. There is talk of a LAX 777 micro-base, what is a micro-base?

I'll admit I was in a wise a$$ mood when I wrote it, but here it is again for review:

That said, I've asked you this and am waiting for an answer:

Since you claim I've made many posts saying you've been paid, and since you have a database of every post I've made, show me three posts where I've said you have been paid to post.

Since they are going to use the 717 on the LAX-SFO shuttle, LAX would seem like the no-brainer choice for a base to me. You need ready access to reserves for that operation and like you said, the airplanes would just use the gates the RJs they replace are using.

Also, LAX would seem like a much better choice for a short haul aircraft with access to LAS, SFO, OAK, SJC, PHX, TUS, ABQ, SAN, DEN, SMF, SEA, PDX etc. RJs are already on many of the routes and they take the same gate space.

Plus, LA is a much bigger market.

Flyallnite was all over that. Hope he's right.

Don't forget DFW and AUS which these same E-175s do.

Any chance there was a typo on the update and it was meant to say that they expect to make a decision by the end of this year regarding if/where there might be a west coast base? Having a west coast base by the end of 2015 seems to contradict what is mentioned earlier in the same paragraph.

Am I reading it wrong?

I was told by an unofficial source that they have significant gate space issues in LAX and SEA so they were looking at SLC.

They have most of the B concourse used by RJ's now that the 717 could use if they shuffled the RJ's back over to E. They also have enough throughput at the airport to add at least another entire bank of arrivals and departures.

I don't get how that solves gate space issues though. Doesn't matter where we put the base, we would still use the same amount of gates in LAX and SEA. Not sure I believe the rumor, but there must be something to it if CR is saying SLC is in the running. (Lots of CR9 flying and 319 flying in SLC that the 717 could be doing).

Hey! Even a clock is right twice a day! I have to say, I wouldn't be at all suprised to see SLC get them, but they'd need to replace some 319's. We should know soon.

The ALPA PAC supports legislators who support issues the pilots care about, without regard to party. In most years, it slightly favors Democrats. Most, to my knowledge, would not be described as "very far left politicians."

You can see who the PAC supports here.
