At what point do you lose the "new hire" label?

I only ask because I've been asked when i was hired on about 70% of my flights recently. I respond with 2008. They then pronounce me a new hire and welcome me to Delta. LOL.

Not that I mind, but in my head it's like calling a 2nd grader a newborn.

So, what's the standard for not being a new hire around here? :D

Pre 9/11 I guess:D

You're still a 'New Hire' until after you've lost your retirement, taken a 42% pay cut, and/or been furloughed.

Let 'em call you "new hire" all trip as long as they buy the beer!

Whenever anyone asked how long I'd been here, I used to respond "Counting today?"

I always get asked if I'm a new hire! I think only the current wave of hiring counts as newhire. Here's a hint to those who keep asking everyone if they are new: Look at the nameplate. If it has a shiny protective layer over it they are either a "newhire" or had to order a new nameplate!

I consider myself a "senior new hire" from 2007 :D There is a major difference in career experience pre/post 9/11. I figure keeping the "new hire" label is kind of a sign of respect for those who suffered through the lost pensions, bankruptcy, displacements, furlough, etc.

I would say you are a new hire until the next class finishes indoc.

If you were hired after me, you're a new hire.:D
