Not sure about being the last job, but Home Depot or Walmart probably won't want to see my logbook after I "retire" from Delta.

Seems shaky to me too but the FAA apparently bought off on it. An X day is treated different than assigned rest.

The way I am understanding it from you is your last nine hours in your last off day is not part of a 30 hour rest reset and that the entire 30 hours would have to occur before the 9 hours prior to your on call day?

However, you are saying that when you go on a 30 hour rest in your on-call days, you need at least 10 hours of rest after that 30 hour break unless the assignment was given to you before you went into the rest period?

Speaking of the 30 hour deal can I work 7 days in a row without a 30 hour break??? DBMS is letting me and I can't figure out why. They are some pretty easy trips

Hey, you guys that fly airplanes smaller than the 717 for fun on your days off. Someone was telling me our life insurance wouldn't kick in if we bought the farm while flying small planes, is that true?

It's been a long time since I looked closely at it but that sounds right. I know for awhile I was buying the 'private pilot' insurance Delta offers, for when I flew my J3 around.

I do know from back when I flew in the Air Guard, any time I was flying for them, or even driving to/from a drill weekend, my Delta life insurance was null and void and if I died while flying for the guard, my wife/kids wouldn't get any passes or anything else from Delta, as if I'd never worked there. That was one of the reasons I got out of the Guard.... little did I know in 1992 that by 2005 I'd need that Military Retirement and Tricare!

I've found DBMS to be pretty smart. Sure there isn't a 30 hour break in there somewhere? Either a layover or just that much time between trips? And btw, it's not 30 hours in 7 days, it is 30 hours in 168 hours. Entirely possible to start late on day 1 and finish early day 7 and comply with 30/168.

Go dig up the actual sentence in 117 and read it carefully in a lawyer-ish way.

The break comes after 7 days of duty.

You have to look back at the beginning of an FDP and see 30hrs in the previous 168hrs. One minute after you duty-on you can have less than 30.

This whole issue is pretty vague.

I think assigned rest is different than a "non-fly day". Its more like a "vacation day" under the contract if you want to think of it that way.

I think they have to call you after an assigned rest period and give you 12 hours to report.

The company (and apparently now ALPA) think they don't have to call you and they only have to give you 10 hours and you have to acknowledge no later than 2 hours after your rest ends. (same procedure as an ordinary X day)

They've changed the contract language recently. They added language to 23.S.2.a.5 and 23.S.2.c.3
I think those changes were somewhat of a concession by ALPA. (I don't like this whole "Live Contract" concept. It violates the Railway Labor Act if you ask me.)

Anyway,
This really should be an FAQ in the Scheduling Handbook.
