I went on to look at the trip but did not acknowledge.

That is correct.

This issue is whether or not it's a proffer which is based upon time to report.

This is not correct. The key is in the wording of notified AND acknowledges. Time has nothing to do with it. A good habit is to let it go to VM and then check to make sure you didn't hose yourself. You have 10 minutes to acknowledge a time critical GS.

From section 23, page 23-42:
9. A pilot will be obligated to fly a GS or GSWC rotation if he is notified of and acknowledges the award.

10. If Crew Scheduling is unable to contact a pilot to inform him of the GS or GSWC award, the pilot will be bypassed without pay protection and the rotation(s) will be removed 2 from the pilot’s line and returned to open time.

Do reserves fill up on credit or block?

MikeF16 12-21-2015 04:29 AM

Can anybody pipe in on what might have been?

I was incorrectly assigned a trip while on reserve. There were 2 LC pilots with 2 days of availability: I was in bucket 2 and the other pilot was in bucket 1 and they gave me the trip so they could then assign the other pilot SC (I had a later start time due to a partial payback day, so I wasn't eligible for SC as early as the other pilot which didn't work for their schedule). I called scheduling, pointed out the error, and they went back and basically undid the entire day since there was something of a domino effect from this mistake. They fixed the problem and gave the trip to the pilot who was supposed to get it in the 1st place, so all is well.

It is my belief they tried to pull a fast one so they could maximize reserve coverage (717 is grossly understaffed) since they got an extra SC in the original iteration of the schedule. I couldn't find it specifically in the contract, but I know scheduling policy is to assign trips off of LC and then assign SCs, so they basically went out of order so as to maximize coverage. Had I not been stalking the daily trip coverage I might not have noticed this error until it was beyond the point of fixing. Had that occurred (or when it happens next time), would I have had any recourse? Had I flown the trip could I have grieved the assignment and been paid premium pay after the fact?

Well, it's Monday, so call the DALPA office and ask the Scheduling or Contract Admin guys, I'm sure they've seen crew scehds pull that trick before.

Reminds me of a comment by a scheduling supervisor few years ago, "Don't tell me what the contract says, I know what the contract says! I don't really care what the contract says! Let me tell you what we do here! We make the schedule work, regardless of the contract, that's our job here!" OooooKay, I said, right before I called ALPA scheduling.

CREDIT. Look at your time card in iCrew. The first line underneath all your trips has your Credit, then "RES GUAR". When that hits 0, you are Full/done. However, if you have one minute left, they can assign you a trip up to ALV+15 - ask me how I know... ;)

Pay protection question:

I had a rotation last week that, due to a late charter arrival, we were unable to fly the 2 legs scheduled for us the following day due to rest reqts. The end result was that our credit time dropped almost an hour for that rotation, and it closed that way.

Aren't we guaranteed to at least get the credit originally associated with that rotation?
