No, they wear thong speedos on layovers. I think that's what makes the difference.

When you retire you can have a beard and a thong.......and the beach to yourself.

Saw an old, white bearded captain (not sure the carrier, but a big crew) in the LAS hotel a few years ago that looked like he was the captain of the Titanic! I was really close to asking for a pic with him. He looked awesome.

It's certified for beards. If not you had better not allow a unshaven flight attendant in the cockpit. You're correct however it does not have the face plate.
