Ok, I need some serious PBS reserve bidding advice. I'm on a regular line for April thru May 1. I need May 5,6,7,8 off. Obviously I'm trying to bid a regular line with them off and if I get it, all is good. But for a backup, I'm bidding a reserve line.
In my category, the min days on call is 4 days. Here is the question. Can I bid days off starting on May 5th or do I need to start them on May 2nd because there are only three days at the beginning of the month if I try to start them on the 5th? Thanks for any help! Denny

Denny, if you have any April flying that touches May 1 (last day of the April bid period) that also applies to the min days on rule for May.
There is an excellent explanation of PBS reserve bidding in the PBS Gouge. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk Deny, To pile on to Sputnik's reply, you can't violate the reserve rules but PBS/DAL can. This generally happens when you're junior and you get stuck working on days you don't want to work due to coverage requirements. I've been given single days of reserve; typically at the beginning of the month, on holidays, or weekends when coverage is inadequate. In your case, if those 4 days are all you really care about then you could just bid "prefer off" for those 4 days and let PBS take care of the rest. You can add extras like "prefer weekends off" or "set condition" and then tell PBS how many days you'd like to work in a row followed by how much time off you'd like. You can use the command 'all or nothing, else start next bid group' if you want to try several different iterations of days off. You just have to make sure that your last line in PBS drops the 'all or nothing' command. |

Does anybody know the answer to this convoluted Payback/Whiteslip question?
I recently used a PayBack day to drop a one day trip, then White Slipped it back (now the trip is on my line twice for essentially double pay) Now, I have more payback days available. Can I repeat the process-- drop the same trip with another PB day and then WS it yet again? Thanks, BV That's working the system. Just be prepared to fly it, or to lose it, and then to follow up with the phone call to get paid for when you want. |

Thx Herk. I'm done on the 26th for the month. I'll take a look at it.
Denny Denny, they're correct, PBS doesn't have to give you four day of on-call at the beginning of the month - just ask for the days off that you HAVE to have, then some extra, nice-to-have prefs after that and let it worry about whether it wants to give you less than four days or not. It often will give you orphan days |

What I don't know about bidding would fill a pretty large book. However, I routinely get reserve schedules that have stuff on there that doesn't meet the res rules. For example one day 'block' of res. So you could bid your required days off, let them figure out if they want to give you 3 days on or not.
I think I've got it covered. Time will tell!:D Denny |

You have to have 4 days on call if that's what your cat req. it can spill, but it needs to be 4 days of reserve. Apd and sims can change that. That has been my experience thus far

In an April bid package, I saw a 5-day trip worth ~29 hours that had 6 hours of block time.
Five days, six hours in the cockpit. They are always doing this on the 88, just hoping some sucker bids it! |

If it's a spill over trip, it's a trap, and they will change it faster than lightning turning it into a serious POS:mad:

So got a pay question for anyone who's already on the 330. I'm converting to it in September and will be on reserve. Does the reserve guarantee include the international override since it's a pure international jet or no?? Thanks in advance!!
