They generally do not board checked baggage if you fail to get on. May the S/A gods be with you. Wait till the very last minute at the gate even if the flight is overbooked. Never leave the gate till push back. Last night I was #9 for 4 seats, got on.(SA3B)

unfortunately they do board checked bags even if you don't get on. I didn't make a trip with the kids one time to see the parents. Plane filled up. Checked bags including the car seats were loaded on the plane and went. Had to go buy new car seats since we didn't go but still needed to leave the airport.

There is a non rev bag tag, they are not supposed to, for obvious reasons, just like the full fare folks.

Driver,

Thanks for the advice. I looked around on DLNet/TravelNet today, and saw something that mentioned needing to be employed for 6 months to be eligible for interline travel, and I'm a Feb hire. Before I write this off as "save for later," can someone confirm that I'm reading it correctly, and that I'm NOT eligible for ID/ZED fares until I've been on property for 6 months?

Thanks.

That is true due to the ZED agreements. I had a buddy new-hire a couple of years ago and could he could not ZED until 6 months.

It's all automated and when he tried to buy some online ZEDS the ID90 website wouldn't let him and that's when he noticed the 6 months rule.

Never stress over nonrev. Never.

Technically, (tho I just don't understand why, or even who doesn't do it), but you are not "supposed" to give your password to anyone!

Doesn't make sense I know!

Oh, yes, NEVER stress over non-rev!

So, my son announced last night that he's interested in pursuing flying. Of course that's like 6 months after telling me he has no interest and I let my CFII expire. I've got a few questions based on this conversation.

1. Is my ATP at risk taking a CFI practical?
2. Recommendations to renew my CFI with minimum cost and pain?
3. South side aircraft rental recommendations?

I'd like to take him up in a 152 (or similar) for a few hours to see if he's got the bug or not. If it takes then I'd like to update my CFI so we can start work on his private and go from there.

Thanks!

There is no positive bag match for domestic flying, only international. There is a standby bag tag that is used, but I've only ever seen used at out stations, not hubs.

Had a gate agent in Mecca close out a flight with 4 open seats and a lengthy scroll still remaining on the STBY list. Only reason myself and an FA got on was, we were each listed for our respective J/S. Myself and the entire inflight crew thought that was unfortunate to say the least. All in the name of D0. C'est la vie.

2. Would you guys list for it in travel net as a round-trip? 2 separate one-way trips? or list for each leg individually? I vaguely remember someone saying during Indoc that there are advantages to listing as either one-way trips or individual legs, but don't have a clue what those advantages are...

Sometimes I will go one step further and list myself separately, then let the gate agent know I would be happy to take the JS if it is open. It's easier for the gate agent to pull me off the non-rev list and assign a JS on a tight flight. For future reference if you take the kiddos without the wife and they are in the back while you are in the JS, they are considered Unaccompanied Minors (UMs). I always have a red UM folder in my suitcase, ready for the gate agent in case I take the JS. This has saved us on more than one occasion when we had to divide and conquer to get 5 non-revs home.

Heyas Mike,

Bummer. That's why I do the easy peasy FIRC every two years...but anyway....

1) I don't see how you could jeopardize your ATP by taking a CFI ride unless your performance was so grotesque that the examiner felt that you needed to be 709ed.

2) If you had a CFI, and you let it expire, that's a reinstatement. That's less trouble than an initial, and last I checked, a designated examiner can do the ride. I assume you've got a CFI-A and II. Both ratings can be reinstated with one ride.

3) Cant help you with the local scene, but find a CFI/school that has done these before and has a good relationship with the local examiner. That will smooth the process considerably.

Adding *any* instructor rating should reinstate all of them. Do you have an MEI? Getting an MEI would reinstate all your CFI certificates.
